Anything weird and fun in NOVA?
Posted by: Tennessee ()
Date: November 15, 2009 01:26PM

My friend and I go to mason and aren't from around here and we've been trying to find cool stuff to do that doesn't involve lame bars. So what's weird and cool around here? Anything that can be done after 9pm?

I'd love any suggestions, last night we drove around for about two hours being bored out of our skulls.

Go to a Washington Capitals game. You can take the shuttle from Mason to Vienna Metro and then ride Metro all the way to the Verizon Center (the Gallery Place/China Town Metro stop). It's a lot of fun.

Those days are long gone around here.

If you want to experience them you had better find a time machine and transport yourself back to the FAIRFAX COUNTY of the 1980s.

So blame your parents.

I know I do.

don't forget washington dc is just a twenty minute drive away. there's not many safe places to toke and walk around...although i'd suggest some of the upscale neighborhoods down braddock west for blunt rides.

Burke Lake is always a great place to go for a hike, round of frisbee golf, fishing, etc., especially if you are smoked up. It's just down 123 from you.

So, you're looking for something both weird and fun? Get a hooker in Annandale, and get her to give you a blumpkin. Both weird and fun, but you'll get herpes

Although meth and hookers have always been super tempting I'd rather hold off for a few days...

Thanks for the suggestion about places to toke and the stairs. I know fairfax is pretty suburban and wealthy but is there any cool abandoned buildings that are sweet?

Out in Tenn. there are tons of old farm houses and industrial crap. Is there anything like that around?

You can sit at Gravelly Point in Arlington and watch planes take off and land directly over your head. The park is only a few hundred feet from the end of the runway at National, so the planes are pretty close overhead and loud. When they're landing, you almost get the sensation that the plane might actually hit you.

Yeah while you're in Analdale go to one of the Korean rub & tugs and get your pipes cleaned. If you're the fruity ass I think you are, then go the spic drunks behind 7-11 and hit them in Ass in exchange for a 40 dog.

It's not in NOVA, but it's weird and fun: I highly recommend the National Museum of Health and Medicine at Walter Reed in D.C.. It's not well known, but may well be the coolest and most twisted museum in the whole D.C. area.

http://nmhm.washingtondc.museum/

When I last went, they had art exhibits from the Army "Pro stations" (prophylaxis stations) in WWII complete with posters showing how "she may look nice, but she's their best weapon", referring to enemy-affiliated prostitutes. Don't even get me started about what they expected soldiers to apply to their "equipment" before an encounter.

They had the leg bone of a Civil War officer displayed next to the cannon ball that shot it off. Apparently, he used to go visit the pair periodically after his amputation.

There are many exhibits not for the faint of heart, but if you're at all interested in seeing all manner of human mutations preserved in jars, this is the place.

Yeah that museum is worth the trip but it can be pretty intense at times, they have all sorts of medical oddities like a smokers lungs, a skeleton from severe arthritis, a large hair ball some girl swallowed over some period of time and the have the bullet that killed lincoln. Of course it isn't something to do after 9pm.
