Regardless of how you feel about the name change.. how much Tax Payer money was wasted on this entire process to this point? I haven't been following this ordeal that closely but from what I gather a good portion of people were angry due to what seemed to be clearly misappropriated funds towards something that shouldn't cost much of anything.

Great name for a group of superheroes, terrible name for a high school.

It's about time the name change was approved. Now we need to get that racist sign down right fucking NOW!

Bet you $1M that 90% of the HS students and adults who live in the JEB Stuart pyramid have ZERO clue who JEB Stuart, Thurgood Marshall, Barbara Rose Johns and Louis G Mendez are and what they may or may not have accomplished.

Lets not even go into the civil war and the Confederate generals role in directly supporting slavery. 99% of them lived in the South when the war broke out and we're conscripted to do their jobs as military officers.

This SB is the most "creative" group I have ever seen. They vote to consider "Stuart", then "Stuart" gets the most votes and they change the rules.

I'm no lawyer, but it seems to me that they have not followed their own rules and policies.

So the majority vote by far out of all the proposed names was "Stuart High School" and then they lump all the votes of several other optional names together and say that the majority of votes were for names "other than" "Stuart High School" .. and based their decision on THIS!

I heard (R) Elizabeth Schultz on WMAL this morning.

Basically, the Board didn't listen to the community, who wanted "Stuart".

Also, Apparently, the Board wanted "Thurgood Marshall" from the start but some unflattering information came to light about Marshall's personal life, so, being petrified of any controversy, like the Snowflakes they are, they couldn't bring themselves to push through "Thurgood Marshall." They decided on "Justice" to, ostensibly, emphasize Marshall's fight for "Justice.
But, of course, any rational person out there can see that Social Justice aka being SJW's played a big part in all of this, so many will only think of SJW's when reminded of the new name.

Finally, Schultz was in favor of other people of color being honored such as Luis Mendez, who was an Hispanic Colonel who sent his kids to JEB Stuart.

So, we can't spend money on renaming the school but it's fine to make FCPS spend money defending a lawsuit and/or recall petition.

Plus, the lawsuit is frivolous (plaintiffs haven't won any motions so far) and even if they get enough votes to trigger the recall process for Evans, they almost surely won't get a judge to unseat her and, even if they did, it won't undo a 7-4 vote to change the school's name.
