HUGE flash of light followed by loud bang- Virginia Run?

There were two loud bangs and a bright flash for me, my dad and brother, who were in another room on another floor of the house, insist it was two flashes and a bang. This is very alarming and we have no idea what it was? The only thing we could think was that it may have been connected to the Orionid Meteor shower which is happening tonight.

Did anyone else see this?? Will post in the Centreville-specific forum as well.

Northern Virginia's aging infrastructure means transformers blow all the time. Dominion power stated that they will not proactively replace transformers, and will just replace them when they fail. I expect to die of a heart attack when the one that is 20 feet from my bedroom explodes. It is so fucking rusted out it is not funny.

The closest big powerline is at least a football field away, and I was on the entire opposite side of the house. It couldn't have been. :/

One time a branch fell on the power lines in my neighborhood and it lit up like daylight for a couple seconds. It was probably 600ft away at least..
