It's going to fuck over the low paid workers that depend on that road.

Yeah, just like the HOT lanes will in a few years. They have carpet bombed our neighborhoods. Ruined our cars. All, sio we can have the right to pay tolls to go faster in the future. And, when people decide not to use them, they will just keep increasing the tolls just like the DTR and the Greenway.

What they should have done:

-Replace the Wilson Bridge with one the same size.
-Leave the mixing bowl alone (We knew how to drive through it.)
-Create an overhead exit from 66 to Tysons’s that is one way each rush hour
-Take the money saved from the bridge and the bowl and build a bypass on a smaller bridge down stream that goes from MD above the beltway to Woodbridge like the Richmond bypass. Make it with no exits. No environmental or development concerns. Get the people who don’t live here off the beltway. We knew how to drive the bowl. They did not.

Somehow there needs to be system that puts more costs burden on the airline passengers using Dulles rather than local residents.

How did people drive before this toll road was built?

The Dulles Toll Road has nothing to do with airline passengers. VA 267 is purely an engine for economic growth in western county. Those businesses and their employees should bear that burden.

The public hearings were a couple months ago and well publicized.

I posted to the fourm then, and it was reported in the WaPo and other local news papers. Still, the turnout at the hearing was very low. With little opposition, it sailed through.

Oh please, what poor, low-paid workers? The ones driving SUVs or late-model sedans, making 90K-plus a year?

Stop drinking your Starbucks lattes and switch to a McDonald's brew if you can't throw down a few more quarters a day.

100% agree with your list, I'll just add :

- Buy a tunnel boring machine, put it in the ground by Dulles Airport and send it on a circle through VA, MD and back to where it started from. Now put a metro line in that tunnel. Being able to metro to places without having to go to DC would be a huge bonus.

In 2012 it will cost me $90 + a month to drive on the toll road according to this plan. I dont know how much Jack makes a year but $95 a month is a lot to me. I have 4 kids and the bills are high as it is.

It will be $4.50 A DAY in 2012 to drive from 495 to exit 9b !

Maybe it will make traffic less horrible. While much faster no one is saying you can't take surface streets for free.
