Strange noises and vibrations this afternoon
Posted by: Lasuena ()
Date: November 15, 2006 10:12PM

This is a serious question btw. Between 4pm and 4:30pm today I heard off and on some thunder type noises and then felt the vibration in the ground. I thought maybe there were some war exercises going on at Quantico, or blasting at the Centreville quarry, or maybe even a small earthquake. Did anyone else notice this? If so, do you have any idea what it was?

You can rule out a small earthquake, check USGS to be sure

It was probably just noise from an anomalous storm cloud, or a local construction site.

I heard it as well this afternoon, at the same time as Lasuena...I was in Manassas near the dumfries area off Hoadley Rd.

I actually heard the same thing yesterday sometime between 6:30-8:00 probably. I was waiting for the windows to break from the sonic boom. Probably an test aircraft aircraft maybe from Langley AFB or Andrews but probably not Andrews. I keep waiting for the next super plane to be declassified. The f-117 and b-2 are from the late eighties/early nineties. There has to have been something created in the meantime (Aurora?) that eventually will come to light officially.

I heard extremely large booms all day long while in Chantilly.

It sounded kind of like distant fireworks launches.
Everytime I was hit by a bit of a shockwave while standing outside.

It started in the morning and lasted throughout the day.

I was chalking it up to the rock quarry thats around there.

I agree. I was in Herndon late afternoon and thought there was a minor earthquake, very strange.

from the descriptions, i believe it is an aircraft. perhaps it's simply a low flying aircraft... or a weather balloon.  xD

I heard the noise for a couple of hours here in Burke. I am assuming it was some type of exercise down near Fort Belvoir. I don't think it was a plane as the spacing of the booms and noise level were too consisten. Also, it was always coming from the same direction (south of here).

I heard it too all the way down here in southern Fauquier - I assumed it was some kind of exercise at Quantico. It was too late to be blasting at the quarry, too rhythmic to be random and lasted too long to be aircraft.

It's most likely the NORAD military exercises going on this week around the national capital region, see the link below, it was announced earlier this week.

They're probably blasting rock to lay sewer line or water line.

Somebody out in Nokesville this afternoon said the noise was going on all day, shaking the windows, sounding like thunder from the ground. It wasn’t from any thunderstorm unless thunder occurs at the same frequency at regular intervals. The last time I heard it here in Fairfax was around 9pm tonight; sounded like bombing. I’m surprised the news around here today hasn’t said a thing about it. I’ve heard exercises at Quantico before but it never sounded like this. The Aurora aircraft sounds plausible, but these noises seemed to occur 3 at a time, then once, then 3, something like that. I would think that any kind of sonic booms would have to occur over the ocean out of hearing range. Could have been the NORAD exercises.. don’t know but would like to know.

Well if you see any donuts-on-a-rope contrails in the sky then it was a ramjet aircraft, possible the aurora.

Another possibility may simply be construction and road repair. A Beirut-style small stretch of street by me is finally being milled and repaved after I and others begged VDOT to fix it. It may be that new fiscal year transportation budget money is finding its way to repair projects.

And if the booming noises from the ground weren't enough, there was also that weird voice screaming, "F-F-F-FATHER!!! IA! IA! YOG-SOTHOTH!!!!"

No seriously, your UFO theories are unnecessary. They're blasting rock to lay pipe. Seems like I always have to move a mountain to lay pipe too...
