Fairfax County General :
Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
Especially after seeing county worker overtime pays, repaved roads that dont need paving, neglated roads that do need paving, construction workers pretending to work.
I don't mind paying personal property taxes. I do mind that Fairfax County makes you pay a decal fee but does not provide decals. What was meant to be a way to enforce compliance with the personal property tax laws has been turned into another revenue raiser. Given the large number of out of state plates I guess Fairfax wouldn't be enforcing compliance if it did provide stickers.

Not trying to pick a fight, honestly confused: what would the sticker do for you? It was always a revenue raiser, as far as I could tell. What am I missing?

Don't say roads....bum fuck Pennsylvania has better roads than fairfax county..fuck the politicians that keep this tax

It does make it easy to tell if the personal property taxes are paid on the auto, however, that can be checked via an app on the Fairfax County website.
The purpose of the sticker, and before that the county plate was to provide visible proof on the car that personal property taxes were paid. You could walk down a neighborhood street or an apartment parking lot and tell right away who had paid their county taxes, just as you can tell today who had their car inspected. The fee was originally to defray the cost of providing the sticker/plate, and not to be an independent revenue source.

A liberal administration has a never ending need for YOUR money. Regardless of how high the taxes are their "needs" will never be met!

Really? As a percentage of the cost of the vehicle? ISTR two fees: a $25 or so parking sticker and the PPT. Or am I misremembering?
Personal property tax is a great way to fund the county and we are lucky to have it. People who have expensive cars, boats and RV's pay much more in taxes than someone like me who drives a 2006 Camry. It is a wonderful tax!
This is the best tax ever.
It's how we, the tax payers of Fairfax County, get money from all the immigrants living 10 in one house, with 8 cars parked on the street to fund our county. Especially when they are paying $100 a month rent and driving newer model cars.

They are doing this in Loudoun County also. Our streets are now filled with "residents" (heh heh) from "Florida, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Maryland..." etc...you get the picture. No one checks their plates and without stickers they will be able to just renew their out of state licenses and not have to pay any taxes here where they now live. So, why should we bother to pay the extra tax when no one can find these "out of staters" and get them on the list too"

We catch tax cheaters every single day with our automated license plate scanners. At least 50 every single day. No need for county stickers.
I have talked to several cops over the years. They all say the same thing. License plate scanners are a piss poor way of telling whether the car should be paying personal property taxes in Fairfax County.
Scanners tell you is that a car with a particular license plate has been sighted in a particular area. They don't tell you why the car was found there. Work. Carpooling. Visiting family or friends. Flying out of Dulles or Reagan frequently and leave car at friends. Your scanners are useful for saying whether a driver has parked too long in one spot. Scanners are useful for identifying cars already in the system with unpaid tickets or unpaid taxes. With a little more work they can be used to identify plates that are on the wrong vehicle or plates with stolen renewal stickers. Scanners seldom on their own produce enough data to determine whether a car licensed outside of Virginia or registered outside of Fairfax should be paying Fairfax property taxes. One cop told me the only way he can get judges here to uphold tickets is if the driver admits that he or she is living in Fairfax.
The personal property tax doesn't bother me that much. Over in Maryland they instead pay a county income tax in addition to the state income tax. Montgomery and PG's rates are 3.2%.

You have missed the entire point. You have just proven beyond any doubt that you are an ignorant fuck.
Just pay the taxes or move. Most of you are pathetic carpetbaggers who couldn't make it elsewhere. You should realize how good you have it.

For the weak minded who haven't bothered to check:
FAIRFAX COUNTY EMPLOYEES HAVE AWARDED THEMSELVES ALL KINDS OF OUTS ON PAYING TAXES INCLUDING CAR TAXES - despite that they are paid better than anyone but feds - 3x-15x more than anyone else.
no shit if you decide to own a property in fairfax county may realize the ammount you have to shell out for taxes, repairs and infestations. with construction there are major rat problems that are not being reported on. don't think you buy something and had a deal. some were meant to rent for a reason.
