I recently got a job at Fairfax County Government
Posted by: FFX CTNY WORKER ()
Date: August 14, 2017 03:08PM

I was recently hired as an engineer getting paid a lot of money but I don't do any work. I'm board as fuck.

I noticed some people come in for a couple of hours and then are gone all day. Can I do that too?

I'd rather just go home and get paid and come in and work when there is actual work to do. I don't even live in this county.

Mixing cheeto crumbs and jergens lotion together in your moms basement isn't engineering.

Welcome fucking new guy.

The people who come in and leave are over-achieving butt kissers.

Just stay in bed and "work from home" like most of us.

Three points:

Firstly,
A person with any self-respect and ambition would insist their supervisor assign them some work, or they'd polish up the resume and get a real job.

You needn't confide polishing your resume to the supervisor...just do it.

My taxes pay your salary so find some work to do or get out and find a real job.

Thirdly,
You must have gotten your engineering degree from a mail-order diploma mill because you can't spell for shit.

The word you want is [ bored ]

I once had a job in a network control section where I didn't have much to do except be there in case
something happened so I used the time to take career related courses. I enjoyed the experience because I didn't have to do my
papers on my own time.

He was hired for a position with "engineer" in the title. He could be a landscape engineer and pushes a lawn mower. Or a facilities engineer where his role is to unclog toilets at the government center on taco Tuesday. He never said he was educated or earned an engineering degree.

because I though using the one about the dog dying with be insulting.
Moving on.

I'm sorry, but that makes literally no sense sans context. What site is FFXU blocked from?

let the music play
and he won't get away.
Let the music play (just let the music play)
And he'll come back to you.. (yeah right..)

Good lord SHANNON. I could not work for FFX County just knowing I might end up working with you. How are you posting to this site? Huh? What? How are you doing it? Tell me? What? You are not at work but posting about work? How does that work? You have a computer at home? Holy crap SHANNON you must be way overpaid.

You need to get with the program.

Like most municipalities, my fellow workers sleep a good bit of the day...or write books or surf the web or shop.

The key is that they all pretend to be busy as shit. Most of these people might do 8-10 hours of real work a year.

You need to;

1) Find something to do with all that free time
2) Convince people that you are so busy that you can't possibly take on any more projects
3) Find another gig to monetize all that free time
4) Never admit to anyone that you don't do shit

Not if you are posting from your phone.

Nobody should look at the web anyway on their work computer. Always use your phone for web browsing at work.

Do what the rest of your coworkers do. Start a business, get a County contract and work at it at home while you are telecommuting. Show some initiative!

I am bored as fuck at my job too. The first thing I was told 18 years ago when I got hired was to never tell anyone that I had nothing to do. I do work about an hour each day but have to fill in the rest playing games on my kindle and dragging lunch out from 11 till 1. The afternoon is the hardest. I only get paid about 58k per year so its not like I should be doing much work anyways.

You local govies are pikers. My neighbor is a fed. He teleworks 5 - 6 days a PP. And you can take the 'work' part out. While teleworking, he mows the yard, goes to the mall, does home improvement projects, walks the neighborhood and is never working. He told me that he surfs the web all day when he goes into the office except for 4 meetings that he attends weekly. He's a maxed out GS15 so he's making north of $160K.

This is a fake post by a loser who got turned down by FFX. An engineer would know how to spell "bored". Trying to stir up anti-government worker bashing; fail. I know FFX workers who work like dogs and I also know they do NOT get paid lots of money - more than min., thus, a lot more than you'll ever make. Loser.

You're a liar. Even if it were true, no one would admit this to you. You're an old bored f**k Republican who has a chip on his shoulder. If you had a clue, there is technology that tracks teleworkers' time and work -- both govt and private sectors - if you think people can get away with doing nothing, you're wrong and clearly not part of the modern work force. Damm-nabit.

It is 100% true. Sorry it's caused you so much butthurt. The best government workers are working 50% of the time. This guy doesn't even try and hide it. His wife is also a gubmint worker and she's better than he is, but not much. She's a GS14 and they're pulling down close to $300K a year total. She teleworks 2 days and week, so they always have someone home. I don't see her fucking off like he does, so she might be working. Might not be. She still goes out shopping a couple times a week while 'teleworking'. Always a trip to Costco on Thursdays.

Bull, Butthead. He did not say to you that he surfs the net all day. You are a liar. You are jealous because you do not have a grad degree and you had to serve a master.

Public AND Private Sectors workers today telework a great deal of the time today, little green man. That's the modern global workforce.

I can tell that you no longer work. I retired myself a few months ago, and I teleworked -- which was great - BUT work was ALWAYS there, 24/7. My team was in DC, HK, Tokyo, San Diego, lead by top managers in Boston. The 9 to 5 jobs are getting fewer, and mainly performed by lower waged, lower skilled employees, like yourself. So what that the wife goes to Costco. Teleworkers are not talking around the water cooler anymore. She can go to Costco during her lunch hour. You're a little, little man. And 300K/year is not a lot of money around here. For you, it's probably 10x your salary.

Get out of other people's business and get a job at CVS if you they'll hire you. Get a life twerp.

There are good workers and bad workers in both private and government sector. My wife works as a fed, and I can tell you she and her colleagues work very, very hard, and also work at home. When my wife works at home, she us up by 7 a.m., and often works until 9 (and yes, stopping for diner and an occasional run to Whole Foods or Trader Joes). The government gets way more from her at home than if she were to go into the office. She has more energy for work at home, more focus, less distractions, and, yes, like someone else stated, her work is monitored.

Sometimes I see people who work really hard every day. I was staying at a Hampton inn recently and it was painful for me to watch the cleaning ladies working so hard. I could not stand to watch them. I went to the lobby and there was a maintenance man working on a door closer, he was sweating and everything. It must be horrible to have to work hard.
