Well, it was without question Robinson Secondary. But that was before the Meier scandal surfaced.

As much as I hated going to Westfield, I'd have to say it's one of the best schools.

the question really should be what is the third best because we all know TJ is 1 and South Lakes is two, what would be 3: McLean?

TJ is not really a school district so it doesn't represent a defined smaller area like Langley or Jeb Stuart. Kids from all over can attend TJ, if they can split atoms of course.

But the real question of which school is best is just asking which Mom's & Dad's make the most cash. Everyone's gonna chime in on how great Madison, Langley, and Mclean are, so as always it's only rich white schools that are deemed "the best" Now I'm really gonna puke when some fuckin yenta from South County tells me how great that school is. Usually those types are newer transplants from some midwest shithole and they think Fairfax County is some utopia.

Face it, they all get the same books, They all have some gang activity and drugs. When your 28 it won't matter if you went to South Lakes or Edison.

I'm not talking about what FCPS schools are the best....Are you telling me there is not 1 non-FCPS school (PVI, Flint Hill, etc) that trumps FCPS schools? And I'm asking what is the overall best school. Yeah TJ has great academics, but going to a large school filled with geniuses can make getting into a college harder because the school can only accept so many kids from 1 high school. Also, I don't believe TJ Alumni have a reputation for being socially apt (I know this stereotype doesn't apply to all alumni). Basically, I'm looking for a school that has it all: Great academics, respect, high college acceptance rates, etc. And also, it is a fact that looks DO matter in society. A kid with a 4.3, few social skills, bad clothes, and a goofy face will probably not be as succesful in business-related professions as a kid with a 3.8, great personality, some nice clothes, and great looks. I know a guy who had a 3.2, but his prep school was so respected for turning out all-around great guys that he got in to outstanding universities.

This sounds trite, but what's best for one child isn't best for another.

Private schools generally have smaller classes and provide more individual attention than public schools. But each private school offers a somewhat different mix of pros and cons. For example, some private schools field very strong athletic teams in certain sports. Other private schools provide opportunities for all students - including those who are not particularly athletic - to play on school teams. A future star athlete probably would be happier at the first type of private school, and might be even happier at his large neighborhood public school if it had a reputation for producing strong teams in his favorite sports, year after year.

Similarly, Flint Hill is known for its strong Latin program. But if you have a child who refuses to take Latin, then the Flint Hill Latin program becomes irrelevant And if your child's primary interest is marching band, then some local public schools would be a better bet.
