Suggestions for getting off politicians calling lists?
Posted by: SuzyQ ()

Oh god what will make all these calls stop? The phone rings several times a day with nonsense polls, reminders to vote, and pitches for one candidate or another. I work at night, so sleeping during the day is a necessity. No, I can't turn my phone off because I'm often on-call and need to be reached. I just want off of all the lists and automatic machines calling me.

Suggestions?

Flame away Fairfax!

Don't vote. Cancel your voter registration too or it will be years before you drop off the rolls.

This will also drasticly reduce your cahnces of being called for jury duty....it's worked for me for over 30 years now.

Much less political junk mail too!

Already did most of that aside from changing my number. On websites when I buy things I always use 703-555-1212 and I won't give my number out to anyone at a store or even repair places. I'm very protective of my phone number. I've been on the do not call list for years - doesn't work on political calls. Crafty Bastards :)

Thanks for all the tips!

Register as an independent. Don't register with either one of the political parties. That seems to help.

I've called McDonnell's campaign three times and told them to remove me from their list. I am still getting calls from his daughter.

Political campaigns are exempt from the Federal Do Not Call Registry and having an unlisted/unpublished phone number may not help to stop these calls. Since they can call just about anyone there is a good chance that the auto dialer simply runs in sequence - starting at (703) xxxx-0000 and running through (703) xxx-9999.

My only phone is a mobile phone, and though I don't give the number out too much I don't really worry about it... I only answer calls that come up on caller ID as someone I know, otherwise I let it go to voicemail. If it is a telelmarketer then I save off the number and assign a silent ringtone to them. If it came through my Google Voice number I log in there and block the caller and they are gone for good.

I got on the dem list because I signed a petition to help a small-time candidate (Greg Werkheiser, the first time he ran) get enough signatures to run. How I regret that now. I get ads in the mail from him and democratic groups on a daily basis now the election is in full swing. During the board of supervisors chairman race I got bulova stuff in the mail daily as well. Ugh.

I give out a fax number as my phone number whenever places ask for it.

Pretty much same here on my cell. I wish my home phone had all the features of my cell.

I break out my cell contact list on different ring tones. When the phone rings I know immediately if it's a circle of trust, friend, family, work or somebody who is not in my contact list.

I give out 703-936-1212 or 703-844-1212 whenever I'm asked for mine

Or make it somewhat believable and memorize the number for a massage parlor in Manassas or something.

Block this number 202 461 3464. It's one of the mass spam Republican auto dialing numbers.

You must be new here. You don't register your political affiliation in Virginia.
