Is there anywhere I can go and PAY to get the H1N1 shot?
Posted by: PatriciaBollinger ()

I don't mind shelling out the $30 rather than waiting for Fairfax County to acquire enough vaccine to inoculate anyone who wants it. That'll probably be February! So, is there any place I can go to get the H1N1 shot if I am willing to pay?

After seeing that segment on the news last night about the girl who can no longer walk and has multiple seizures daily because she got the swine flu shot, I will not be getting it.

It's not known whether her symptoms have anything to with the flu shot. Some experts believe it's psychogenic. Also, there are no other reports of a flu vaccine causing her symptoms.

The County said they would have about 10,000 doses available for Saturday's clinic. After 2p there were no lines, and they only gave out 4,331 doses. Too bad they couldn't open the clinic up to others at that point, it is sad that with shortages of vaccine that close to 6,000 doses went unused by Fairfax County residents... there they sit.

I'm not going to inject the swine flu in my body on purpose. Who knows what the long term affect will be. The vaccine was only tested on a small sample of 200 people.

That was not from the swine flu shot but a normal flu shot.

My friend's son just got "diagnosed" with the H1N1... Same shit, no swab... Makes you wonder how many, of all those occurrences of swine flu reported by the news, were just observational as well...

A friend's daughter, who works for a day care center was also "diagnosed" with H1N1 3 days ago.

I asked him if they did a culture, or if they just simply assumed that anyone with flu symptoms had H1N1.

Today he tells me the "swab test" (a culture) costs $700, so insurance companies are refusing to pay. These insurance companies (and doctors) are sticking with a lie that this is too early for regular flu so that anyone with the flu this early just simply has to have H1N1 (even though these same doctors and insurance companies will tear apart any "study" that follows the same method of causality that they are using to determine that everyone has swine flu, if it saves them money.)

So basically, nobody is being tested in order to differentiate between normal seasonal flu and H1N1, and all flu cases are being classified as H1N1.

The sad part is that while that obviously makes money for somebody, we don't know if the seasonal flu is more or less prevalent than H1N1, or which strain is causing more deaths, or whether there are different modes of treatment for each.

Yes, there is proof, although it deals with the Seasonal Flu Vaccine. It is a very rare reaction, but it has been documented none-the-less.

I've received the Seasonal Flu Vaccine annually since as early as was possible (I can't remember what age exactly). The only time I ever caught the Flu without the full protection of the Vaccine, was about seven years ago. I have no doubt that the Vaccine still helped however, but I've never been so sick. I had a fever for well over an entire week, and it took me over two weeks to get back to an acceptable level of good Health.

However, since I've been out of High School, I honestly haven't been as prudent in obtaining the Seasonal Vaccine. For the past few years I haven't gotten it, and fortunately as well, I haven't contracted the Flu either.

I won't get the Swine Flu Vaccine for two reasons: First off, it's a Live Virus version of the Vaccine, and because of such there stands a good chance that it might screw me up worse than I would be if I simply took my chances. Second, it has so far caused quite a few cases of paralysis in certain recipients. Back in Summer that number stood at 25 patients, which might not sound statistically high, but compared to TamiFlu (The Anti-Viral), the risks don't weigh in favor of it. The worst side-effects reported so far from the TamiFlu were Nightmares in Children (Which are normal with High Fevers anyway).

If I catch the Flu, I'll go the TamiFlu route this year. Thank God for the Anti-Virals, because they save tons of lives as well.

Just take zinc, 1000 mg of C and Echinacea. If you start to feel sick, double up the doses of all three, and start drinking the yogi and nutritional medicinal teas, just grab any that have anything to do with "immunity" or whatever.

Anyone worried about catching the flu should already be boosting their immune system by taking lots of A, B complex, D, C, echinacea, Zinc and just basically eating as healthy as possible. And WASHING THEIR HANDS anytime they return indoors or before eating.

I work downtown in DC. I just assume that everything I touch once I leave my office is infected. When I get to the place where I am going to eat lunch, I wash my hands first. When i get back to my office, I wash my hands. When I get home, I wash my hands. When I get to the restaurant to have dinner, after I'm seated, I go to the bathroom and wash my hands.

If people start dropping like flies, I might consider the vaccine, but as long as I'm keeping myself healthy and doing everything I can to keep my own immune system in top form, I'm not about to be a guinea pig.

I even read about how some doctors are having doubts about the vaccine since it is made in China (melamine in dog food, lead in children's toys, some other poison in milk products.)

For those of you afraid to get the flu shots because of possible complications, remember that all vaccines have a risk factor of something like 1-million or so. Yet you don't want polio right? So you get the shot. Same with MMR, chickenpox, etc. The whole idea is that you protect yourself and limit the number of vectors, thus saving thousands of lives.

Anecdotal stories about complications just lower the immunization rate and place people at greater risk. If you get H1N1 (or even regular flu), your risk of dying is DRAMATICALLY higher than any complications. If there is a 1-million complication rate, then 300 Americans will have complications (assuming 100% vaccination). Something like 60,000 people in the US die each year from flu- most haven't been vaccinated. Just do the math. Which group do you want to be in? Where do you have the odds going for you? Remember 1/3 of the population is getting flu this year...

They are only testing those who are so sick that they have to hospitalized.

I'll take my chance without the shot. I drink enough beer that the flu will probably be killed off quickly.

It appears the FDA is on the fence about the vaccine. Here are some interesting facts from the FDA website. The vaccine is really nothing more then a strain of seasonal vaccine.

• The FDA-approved Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 monovalent vaccines are made in the same licensed facilities and with the same manufacturing processes used to safely produce hundreds of millions of doses of seasonal influenza vaccine every year.

• In addition, before they can be used, all Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 monovalent vaccines must undergo the same rigorous FDA manufacturing oversight, product quality testing and lot release procedures that apply to seasonal influenza vaccines.

• Because of the scientific information in the literature, the fact that FDA-licensed manufacturers are producing the Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 monovalent vaccine following the same processes as for their seasonal influenza vaccines, and FDA-oversight of manufacturing, product quality testing and lot release procedures, FDA has a high degree of assurance of the safety of both seasonal and Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 monovalent vaccines for pregnant women.

• Potential side effects of the Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 monovalent vaccines are expected to be similar to those of seasonal influenza vaccines. The most common side effect is soreness at the injection site. Other side effects may include mild fever, body aches, and fatigue for a few days after the inoculation. As with any medical product, unexpected or rare serious adverse events may occur.

My daughter had it too. Same issue as above, sick few a few days and then perfectly fine but the doctors refused to test for it, they just diagnosed her as having it based upon a physical exam. They told us that the VA Dept. of Health recommended that they not test everyone unless they are in a high risk group. They were instructed to treat it as regular flu. (MY daughter is 7).

Not sure why they do it this way but that was our experience too

Yep, maintaining high BAC levels is proven to reduce the chances of even getting a cold.

No. Being able to pay for a medicine would imply a free market, where those who really want it and are willing to pay for it get it.

This is socialized medicine, where your betters decide whether you should get it or not, even though they don't know you and have never met you.

There's a lot to be said about heavy drinking.

Of all of my elder family members, the ones who have lived the longest, drank the most.

The oldest someone on either side of my family lived was 96, and she drank daily. Not falling down drunk, but she had a fair amount of alcohol every day.

And I know from my own experience that when you feel like you are starting to get sick, drinking a 12 pack of beer or a 5th of your favorite spirits will give you a really bad hangover the next day, but you won't get any sicker after the hangover is gone.

"In the United States, on average 5% to 20% of the population gets the flu; more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from seasonal flu-related complications, and; about 36,000 people die from seasonal flu-related causes. Some people, such as older people, young children, pregnant women, and people with certain health conditions, are at high risk for serious flu complications."

WHO - 6 July 2009 -- Cumulative Total number of confirmed cases of Novel H1N1 World Wide: 94,512 confirmed cases and 429 deaths.

World Mortality Rate: 0.45% (up from 0.42% on last update July 3)

[wiki.answers.com]

so according to the info i found online, a SHIT load more people die from regular flu on average each year than they have died from swine flu in 2009. its official mortality rate is in the US is .01% so quit being a bunch of pussies who listen to the news, and start looking at the statistics.
