FCPS BusWatch cameras, are they on?
Posted by: billybobjoe ()

Hey guys. Today I got in a fight on the bus. I didn't start it, but I'm concerned that I might get in trouble again. Are the Fairfax County Public Schools bus watch cameras on?

I didn't just for the reason that I can't get in trouble again. I'll probably be rec. for expulsion if it happens again.

Maybe you should stop getting in fights with people. Who threw the first punch?

When I was there, my bus driver said some cameras were real and some were fake. (He trusted me with that info because I'm not a fucking hoodlum.) That was a decade ago, though.

I'd say it's 50-50 that the camera works.

The least reliable ones use a VHS recorder, which may or may not have a tape in it. The best are the newer ones that use some kind of hard drive type recording device.

The driver has no access to either system because more often than not it's the driver they are checking on, not the students.

He threw the first punch. They always find a way to get both of us in trouble though

It depends.

What is the bus number?

What is the bus make? Chevrolet, Thomas , etc?

The Thomas buses usually do not have a functioning digital camera.

The newer buses do.

Many supervisors do not know how to process the videotape so you are probably in luck.

Most of the cameras are running all the time, so I'd say there's a pretty good chance it's on tape. But if you didn't start it then you have nothing to worry about. But, then again, for some reason both people in the fight always get in trouble in schools. Stupid if you ask me.

Different buses have different cameras.

The bus manufacturer is important.

What is the manufacturer here?

Regular ed buses are all AmTran or Thomas. The Thomases, which are mostly spare buses, mostly either don't have a camera, or it's a fake. Of the ones with a real camera, few if any of them work. I don't know the camera brand on the Thomases.

The Amtrans were ordered with REI BusWatch cameras. Most of these work.

Did the AmTrans come with cameras or were they installed by FCPS?

how about if I bring a neodynium magnet onto the bus and stay up in the front, find the recorder and use that?

the recorder is probably wired to a remote part of the bus.

The Amtrans came with them. I don't know if International installs them when they build the buses or Kingmor (the dealer) installs them. Probably the latter. I know Kingmor installs the Carrier A/C systems, and puts the bus numbers and FCPS lettering, among other things.

If FCPS installed the cameras, NONE of them would work! LOL

You are probably referring to a Thomas bus here.

When were the cameras installed on Buses 1799 and 1795?

Where are the service records kept which indicate this?

Most of them do not even work. No one really even knows how to work them. Everybody up there is just stupid. The only thing they are good at is keeping the seat warm. There is a fuse box on the driver side of the buses (most of them) and the fuses blow and know one changes them. You can just pry the door open and pull them yourself if you want. No one will catch you either. They say they are watching but they are not.

I would like to know the dates of installation for the digital cameras on these two buses:

1799 and 1795.

I would like to know where the records of installation are kept.

How are the tapes retrieved and by whom?
