Montgomery Co. lawmakers finalizing new spending plan
The Maryland county council is set to vote on its $5.4 billion budget that would take effect in July. Members gave preliminary approval last week.

that means your DC city workers turned "federal workers" who've all amassed in parts of MD more than Fx - are, despite being totally run by tax money

issuuing $5.4 billion in debt they have no intentions of paying - and they plan on skipping out on interest payments as well no doubt

A budget doesn't mean "debt". Are they allowed to borrow for the entire budget of Montgomery County?

Adding 100 teachers and lowering class size with no tax increase . . . sounds like a problem Fairfax County would love to have.

Counties don't run "debts".

It is a very funny article if it was not so dishonest and biased! Last year they raised RE taxes by around 8 percent in addition to the increase in assessments for a grand total of 10 percent increase in RE taxes. It was so extraordinarily high that Montgomery County taxpayers enacted term limits on the Council resulting in almost half of the body turning over during the next election.

Montgomery County has $4.6 billion in outstanding bonds (debt). That is not counting various types of joint debt such as that for Metro, WSSC, and the MD Parks and Planning Commission. This also doesn't count unfunded pension liabilities, which are huge.

PG County has even more debt, and with a much smaller tax base.

Just make sure you have no Maryland muni bonds in your retirement portfolio. They will be one step behind Illinois when the entire federal swamp gets drained in the future.
