Explosion- Fairfax Towne Ctr - general area

So yesterday, I'm coming back from work and fire trucks/cops are everywhere, blocking the road.....apparently the big green electrical box in the neighborhood grassy area at the corner Exploded and was engulfed in flames...
the charred lid of the box was on the sidewalk smoldering
and of course, power is out at home

surprisingly after being flooded w/ water from the fire trucks, the power was back on at 6pm

but now our phone line has a major, annoying humming

and lucky nobody was hit w/ the 100lb exploding lid flying through the air
(lots of kids, families in the area)
I mean, who wired that box? there are elec. companies working on it like every month.....not surprised it exploded
Yea, nice job
what's next, somebody gets electrocuted toasting bread?

Shit happens. Odds are you will die in a car crash or from slipping in your bathtub before a 100 lb lid hits you in the head. Quit yer bitchin'.

This explains why we have power outages and surges every month or oftener. The power used to never go out around here. Now it goes out regularly. Why don’t they just build the place their own substation?

My overall experience with Virginia Power, or Dominion Power, is that they're pretty bad with maintenance. I used to live in a place where the power went out whenever it rained hard. Virginia Power was the electric company.

NOVEC is a hell of a lot better. I rarely have a power outage with them.

PICS or it didn't happen

no one believes your crap you saw it or that you know bad wiring caused it

does "novec" even exist? (no doubt fx co gov is trying to create it using my tax money to avoid their personal Dominion electric bills)

transformer cabinets usually do not have 100 lb lids

i've seen a unit in flames before - it'd been knocked down by trees and hit the ground hard - breaking it open while it was being shorted / glowing hot
