The bear sighting was reported in the Birch Pond community near Rocky Run Stream Valley Park in Fairfax. Also, a bear reportedly damaged a beehive at Ellanor C. Lawrence Park in Chantilly, according to a report from the Fairfax County Police Department.

Last month, Fairfax County Police issued a warning to residents of Reston and the rest of the county to be on the lookout for bears, as spring is the time of year when black bears and cubs start to emerge from their winter dens. And we've had bear sightings in the area numerous times in recent years.

I seem to remember reports last year of bear near the McD's at rt29 and Rt28. That would be consistent with the bear reports of Ellanor C. Lawrence Park in Chantilly and Greenbrier subdivision.

The bear attacked a beehive? I'm surprised the bees didn't sting the bear to death.
