A driver is in custody and another driver suffered life-threatening injuries in a four-vehicle wreck Friday in Woodbridge, Prince William police spokesperson Officer Nathan Probus said Monday.
William Johnson, 48, of the 100 block of Butternut Street in Stephens City, has been charged with maiming another while driving under the influence, three counts of felony hit-and-run and related charges.
Around 12:05 p.m., Johnson was traveling north on Jefferson Davis Highway near Powells Creek Boulevard when his 2011 Jeep struck the back of a 2011 Toyota Avalon, Probus said.
That caused a chain reaction, with the Jeep striking a 2007 Honda Odyssey and a 2009 Ford Expedition.
When a police officer arrived, Johnson allegedly attempted to walk away from the scene. Once officers detained him, they determined that Johnson was intoxicated, Probus said.
The driver of the Toyota Avalon, a 48-year-old Fredericksburg man, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Two children who were passengers in the Expedition — a 5-year-old girl and 4-year-old girl, both of Stafford — were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.
The other drivers involved and a passenger in the Expedition reported minor injuries and were treated at the scene. A passenger in the Avalon was not injured.
