She doesn't go as violent as she has in the past, but I still believe her to be capable.

The best option, assuming you love her and aren't an asshole looking to control his wife, is to get her to after to treatment and then sorry here through that process.
If she won't agree and you truly feel she is a danger to herself or others either call the police or take her to an emergency room for a psych evaluation.
If, what you really want, is animation to use against her in a divorce, then ... stop being a dick.

Last summer, our son began living with a convicted felon child molester and their mutual girlfriend. In early September, the girlfriend had a bipolar episode, attacked our son, and was sent to jail. Without the girlfriend to help with bills, our son and his felon companion moved back into our family home, My wife has been carrying on with both of them since they moved in. The woman is in her sixties and is mentally ill.

Best you can do is get her in a 72-hour hold- but past that, unless SHE agrees to treatment nothing will happen.
If you value your sanity, get out now. Plan for divorce quietly, if you mention it now without being prepared for blowback, you won't get your way (and she may try to drain the accounts before you have a chance to get some money out).
Hope you had a secret bank account/stash somewhere....my mother AND father both pulled me to the side and said to have a stash somewhere, at least enough to put deposits on an apartment, some basic furniture, and a used car CASH (like a 3k car) so in case she manages to shut down the credit cards you can still have a roof over your head and a way to work she won't know about while it all boils over. Put everything in a friend's name if possible- just saying.

One more thing if you have kids- STAY IN THE HOUSE. She may use you leaving to tilt the legal decision in HER favor. Stay in the basement/on the couch/sleep in your car in the driveway but DON"T MOVE OUT IF YOU HAVE KIDS otherwise it will be IMPOSSIBLE to get back in and she may sell all your shit while you are at work one day!!

One key element in this is that she is unable/unwilling to acknowledge her episodes other than to rationalize the way I was at fault. Said another way, she has never verbally acknowledged she has a problem. I snapped pix of some of her more memorable "explosions", but in recent years she's become much less physical. Her verbal meltdowns are separated by months, of late. "Colorful" does not begin to describe her tirades.
Shortly after we were married 8 yrs back, in a fit of emotional revenge, she removed my name from all of her accounts. She also went so far as to taking her name off of my accounts. I feel safe in that regard.
My preference is to oblige her to seek attention for her insanely rapid anger, her general distrust of everyone. I speculated that commitment could get her into a process. More likely, she'd begrudge such an attempt with passionate fury.
Your comments about quiet divorce prep are valid; that would be a necessity.
Your parents were correct with their advice. Seperate accts & titles are in effect. We have no kids. I own a an empty condo. If I decide to jump, I think'd make it.
Twist: we work for the same large company, know many of the same people... I wouldn't dare pollute the "workplace waters", but it would be naive to assume that she wouldn't.

Once she has sex with someone, other than you, it will also make her start to think about moving on to greener pastures!
