I'm talking about it being brought up in conversation when someone mentions, do you know anyone who works for the Alphabet Agencies? I mean, they are the ones who revealed their "secret" employment to me and others anyway. Lots of gray area here.

The correct answer to that (weird) question is, "Yeah, living in this area, I have lots of friends who do. I won't tell you who specifically, because that would be violating a trust."

Thanks for the honest answer. "A lot of trust" likely means you have a TS clearance or work at said agencies and you don't want to jeopardize it. Copy that. It's your livelihood, after all, given everything you've worked for, why put your career at risk?

What I want to know (and, this applies to me, my family, and other proximate neighbors) is that, "Why the hell would they tell us where they work, what they did and where they travel on assignment in the first place?" Did they want some sort of merit badge for saying they worked where they did and did what they do?

It almost sounds like a first date. Most want to impress the other party by being as embellished and status inflating as possible. Remember, first (and second, and third) impressions are everything.
