Driving Question
Posted by: Janz ()

Hi! I was wondering if anybody here can tell me if in Virginia, you can legally drive totally deaf in one ear, while using a hearing aid in the other. I know this question sounds really weird, but an acquaintance of mine really wants to drive. Any replies appreciated. Thanks in advance, guys!

You can be totally deaf and be licensed to drive in Virginia.

Your license will have a restriction requiring outside mirrors...which all moder cars have anyway.

Some deaf drivers get the "Hearing Impaired" license plates on their cars. This helps avoid being shot or beaten to death by Fairfax County Police who might think a deaf driver is ignoring them.

I know someone who is blind in their left eye and they have a drivers license with no restrictions. They have to completely turn their head to see the side view mirror and check their........wait for it.......blind spots!!!! Seriously though, it scares the hell out of me to ride with them. They are so cautious in their actions that they are almost dangerous.
