Fairfax County General :
Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
Where can I get a key duplicated around here. I just went to Home Depot at Merrifield and all there machines are "out of odor". I'd rathter not have to run over to the Fairfax circle one. What a pain this has been.
I'd be happy to help find place close by, but I don't know what type of credit or debit card will be accepted at these places. Please post your type of card, number on card, full nameon card, exp date and cvv number.
I'll look up what type of vendors will accept this card.
It's been my experience that Home Depot and Lowes keys suck. Every time I've had more than one key made, at least one (or more) of the batch don't work. On the flip side, every key ever cut at a locksmith work like a charm.
There is a locksmith in Vienna, on Maple Avenue. It's in that "strip" of stores on the right as you head from Nutely Street, towards downtown Vienna. It'll be on your right, around the Quiznos. If you hit the gas station on the corner of Maple Ave and Pleasant Street, you've gone just a bit too far.

I agree Home Depot keys don't always work. I found that out the hard way. Dropped off by a taxi late at night grabbed my hidden spare key and it didn't work.
Even the second set I had carefully made didn't work. Finally went to a locksmith, worked better than the original.
Make sure you test all the keys when you get home.

Oh come on....you're complaining after only going to 1 store?!?
Also, get your eyes checked-I have never once in my life seen anything "out of odor".
To answer your original question: I agree with the Fischers Hardware suggestion above. Tons of helpful folks there; you can't even walk to the other side of the place without 4 employees asking if they can help you with anything.

I've found that no key fits as well as the one which originally came with my home. We've had to replace locks probably about four times total (Thank you lost keys).

I have no idea where our keys were made, but they've typically always worked. The one issue however, is that with the last batch of keys we've issued ourselves, after a while some of them started developing problems. Any idea why they would only become problematic after extended use? Physical wear?
I think there's an online key store. you send them your key and they send you another one just like it. I forget if they keep the original or send it back too.
As I recall, they also offer duplicate credit card services too.

Awesume. Thanks for the help. Took me 30 seconds to get a duplicate made there. It cost $4.
Thank you also to the others who gave legitimate advice. To the rest of you asswipes, go to hell.
