Fairfax County Blueprints

Hello,

I posted this a few days ago, but I can't seem to find the thread any longer. I saw some of the responses, but I was hoping to come back today to find more. But *POOF* it was gone.

Anyway. I was wondering if anyone happened to know if FF county keeps a copy of the blueprints / design drawings for the houses that have been built recently.

I don't even know who to ask. Building permits?

If not I suppose I could go to the builder. Has anyone ever done this before, know about how much it would cost?

Thanks much.

the owner of a house I lived at just asked his builder for a copy and he was able to get ahold of them. He may have payed a nominal fee.

The one problem was that they did not reflect the totality of the final product. Some small changes had been made by the builder "on the fly" and the plans showed things that were not actually a part of the house, or showed sections of the house as slightly different than the plans. Hope your builder isn't such a slacking bitch.

You could probably get them from the county too, call the government center information desk and ask.

Yes I did and I couldn't find it.
If you can find it. I'll buy you a doughnut.

reston is stupid as hell let fall out of his pie hole:

you are given a copy of the blueprints if construction is being done on your house...

I'm not the original owner, and the original owner did not receive the blueprints either. What you stated was an incorrect fact. Incorrect because not all examples of that statement are true. Next time try increasing your sample size to more than just your imaginary friends who think you are cool.

Yep, I've been there before. If you ever can't find it, I end up doing a google for "Fairfax DTA" and a couple of links later I'm there.

i stand corrected. sorry... though in my defense, i was going with the most likely scenario. that leaves the question, wtf did it go?!

edit:

i did manage to find the location of where the thread was: http://www.fairfaxunderground.com/forum/read.php?2,24951

it looks like it was hidden or the DB dropped it

Very strange. The "forum" software still recognizes it but it looks like some tables in MySQL got corrupted.

I'll roll those tables back from a backup. Guess it's about time I upgrade to the latest and greatest verisons (of both Phorum and MySQL)

Good catch you guys.

yeah it took me a few mins to find the DTA site. it is really hidden. I guess they really want to keep that info as pprivate as possible (pressure from rich homeowners no doubt who want to say that their house is worth more) even though state law says it can be (is supposed to be) public.

heres the law for those curious:
previous | next

§ 58.1-3122.2. Remote access to nonconfidential public records maintained by commissioner.

The commissioner of the revenue may provide remote access, including access through the Internet, to all nonconfidential public records maintained by his office, subject to such limitations as may be imposed by applicable law. Any system of remote access created or maintained pursuant to this section shall include security measures that preclude remote access users from (i) obtaining any data that is required to be maintained as confidential pursuant to § 58.1-3, the Government Data Collection and Dissemination Practices Act (§ 2.2-3800 et seq.), the Virginia Public Records Act (§ 42.1-76 et seq.), or other applicable law, and (ii) modifying or destroying any record or data in any manner.

(1998, c. 235; 2006, c. 474.)

Believe me, "rich homeowners" want that DTA site to say their house is worth LESS than it really is. Taxes, ya know.

I go to the DTA site sometimes to check out extraordinary houses that I see in my travels. Once in a while, I'll see a house so grand that it HAS to be worth millions...and the County assessment is like 5 or 600 grand!

I'll bet there's plenty of shenanigans going on at DTA for the well-connected.
