It is incredibly easy to get a concealed weapons permit in this state. The process is confidential and relatively quick. There is also nothing in current Virginia law which would prevent most alleged victims of family abuse from acquiring a weapon and keeping it in their homes, or from open carrying the weapons if they needed them for personal safety. This was little more than a "feel good law" for the NRA crowd, and does little to provide real protection for victims of family abuse.

A far better proposal for those serious about protecting victims of family abuse would be to fund self defense courses for such victims, which could include material on guns which would be sufficient to meet the CCP education requirement.

Yes, that would be better, but the posters above you are not interested in helping the women. They just want to believe that they are scoring debating points.

It takes 3 months to get a CCW in FXCO. Women in need will do as they please and be subjest to a year in jail if they do carry concealed without the permit

No specific comment on this case whatsoever. However, I'm a (female) lawyer, and a Democrat. While in law school, I worked for a female judge (who was married to an elected Republican politician). She opened my eyes, and she has not been proven wrong two decades later. The fact is that women regularly file for temporary restraining orders against husbands that they're about to divorce, to boost their case, and put the screws on men. My sister in law did this to my brother. You must be careful in painting men as abusers by wife's statements alone. I myself know a great guy who was denied a judgeship because his truly crazy wife (for decades) accused him of abuse, when in fact she was the bigtime abuser (we all saw it in our group of longtime friends). Life isn't black and white, and men are often not treated well in the courts. Just saying... despite the hysteria of women.
