Heard her on the radio today speaking about "kids" who are flooding our schools from South of the border. Was not a fan but now I've come around. FCPS should create a separate ESOL program for these "children" who are illiterate and do not fit in a regular high school. The old Graham rd. Elementary school is sitting unused.

It isn't that simple Leftist Gorrilla.
I have met some of these kids. They are placed in high school not because their educational background indicates that is the appropriate place for them to be, but rather because they are too old to be mixed in with kids who are on the same educational level. These kids are having to both get up to speed on English and try to catch up on their basic education. This is too much for both the kids and also for many of the schools who are trying to educate them. We can try to keep those kids around for three years and give them a diploma, and let other students' education suffer in the process...OR...we can set up a program to deal with these kids' unique problem so they can actually acquire the knowledge and skills that the diploma is supposed to represent.
The idea of setting up a special ESOL school isn't unique to Schultz. There were efforts to set up a Spanish language charter school in the eastern county a few years ago, and he idea was floated of having Holmes Intermediate house a special ESOL program during the Annandale-Edison-Holmes-Poe redistricting. Since it is focused on one group-Spanish speaking immigrants, it should be a voluntary program, and it should be possible for kids in the program to graduate to their base schools for a mainstreamed education. Such an arrangement would be a far cry from the segregated school education you are complaining of.

And if you clowns were so worried about a rape, where was the good guy with a gun to smoke those bad hombres? Sure, guns aren't "allowed" at school but when has that ever stopped you? It certainly didn't stop the gun firm of Klebold, Harris and Lanza.

Wake up and smell the manure LG. It is not 1817 anymore, but it isn't 1967 either. Our schools are becoming more segregated today than they were a few decades ago. That trend has little to do with current Republican educational agendas or the rising tide of old school racism or neo-racism. It has more to do with the fact that many public schools increasingly no longer meet the needs of typical or above average students, so those students go elsewhere.
If you take a sufficiently large population of students who are unprepared to do high school level work and jam them into a typical high school, something will suffer. Based on what has happened at Mount Vernon it is likely to be the quality of education received by typical students and above average students. The more affluent families will pull their kids out and send them elsewhere, turning a once proud institution into a de facto special needs school.

We may be obligated to educate them but I have not heard anything that says it cannot be done on the cheap. In addition to using excess school buildings use some of the classroom trailers that are littering high school grounds throughout the County.
