Aldi Grocery Story
Posted by: bizarroworld ()
Date: March 15, 2017 06:59PM

Went in there for the first time the other day out of curiosity. That place is the most bizarre grocery store I have ever set foot in. It's about a 1/4 the size of a regular store and they sell the most random crap at the cheapest prices. There were maybe 5 people in the entire place.

Definitely the short bus of grocery stores!!

I thought the same things the first time I went in there. Then I started trying a few things that I use all the time and then I started comparing prices. The light bulb came on. As I realized the high quality of most of the products and how much money I was saving I then started planning all my family's meals out of what was available there. I had no problem doing that. The produce lasts longer than the stuff I was buying at the regular stores. I fill in with Walmart. Then I go on to Giant or Costco for the few things I need that Aldi and Walmart don't have. I love the small store. I love their efficient system. I don't have to clip coupons any more. I love watching people pull up there in fancy cars and put their carts away to get their quarter back. Yes, sometimes they are out of some things or just don't carry them. I just pick them up the next time I am there or go to Walmart.

If I don't like something, I take it back and get a refund. I have only had to do that two or three times. No problem.

I am a fairly wealthy person. I can afford to shop anywhere. I choose to shop at Aldi.

People hate Aldi so much they are having to open a new store in this area every few months to keep up with the lines. There is a new one opening in Annandale in 2017. That is in addition to the new one on Seminary Rd. and the new one on Duke St.

I could care less about Wegman's, Whole Foods, etc.

Oh they have some lines at Aldi. They will call over additional staff and open more lines. Plus, their lines move very quickly since they aren't encumbered with bagging, trying to locate the bar codes, selling all kinds of items, etc. They scan the stuff, put it in your cart, and you are out the door.

Aldi has shorter hours to save money, they close at 9pm. Also bring a quarter, they have no cart attendants. Oh and bring a bag too, you have to bag your own groceries. The lines get big, but they move 3x as fast as the lines do at Giant or Safeway.

This was actually quite true not very long ago, but in recent years Aldi has really stepped it up.

Aldi has several barcodes on product to speed up the check out process. Aldi has fantastic prices on block cheese, and breakfast foods.

The Aldi in Springfield smells like ass. The weird product packages that are knock-offs of name brands are pretty strange too, like shopping on the set off a low-budget sitcom.

The other day a GALLON of milk was 99 cents. Eggs, sour cream and cream cheese are cheaper too. They have weekly specials on vegetables and fruits such Avocados, bell peppers, mushrooms, grape tomatoes, celery etc. They also have chocolate bars from Switzerland. The prices can't be beat. Can't do all your grocery shopping there. Years ago, the original one in this area on 123 in Woodbridge was awful. They've turned it around. The one in Fairfax is good too.

Same situation here. Produce is fresher than other grocery stores, milk is so cheap that a gallon is less expensive than a quart elsewhere and if you do not like something or quality is not up to standards take it back. No questions asked and I think they will refund double the price!

Aldi is persistently cheap.

The shopping carts are locked unusable together. Only when you insert a coin in a slot on the handle bar will the cart unlock from the other and become usable.

When you are finished, you can get your quarter back.

Germans can be very frugal. Aldi cuts many corners in the delivery of groceries. It reminds me of the generic aisles and cheap grocery stores (like A&P's cutrate spinoff PLUS [Priced Low U Save]) that popped up in the late 70s. Before its death, A&P had been purchased by the German grocery operator the Tenglemann Group.

When my father was laid off in 1975, my mother would only shop at discount groceries. She would pee her pants if someone went to the store and didn't buy something in a black & white box. I hated that. Sadly, Aldi fills a market need.

Don't explain yourself to the donks! There is nothing wrong with shopping at Aldi's, despite your income level. People who snub their nose at Aldi because it's for "poor people" are incredible idiots.

[And good for you to be "well set". It just means you've used your head, eschewed excessive frivolty, sacrificed, and worked hard.]

There's no questioning Aldi's prices. If I could buy all of my groceries there...I would. And THAT...is the problem.

Provisioning my home needs to be a one stop operation. I've been to Aldi about 20 times in the last year and everytime I go, I have to make a stop at another store to get the last few items to close out my list. The second store I stop at has everything on my list, not just the items I couldn't get at Ali so, it's really more efficient for me to make one stop and get everything at one store even if that means spending a few more bucks.

We rich people love it, too. That is how we got rich. We have plenty of variety around here. I splurge on Costco tenderloin to liven things up.

Aldi produce is fine. You always have to check your produce, no matter where you shop. I have found bad stuff at other stores, also. I got one bad bag of potatoes and they gave me my money back and also gave me another bag of potatoes, which were fine. Double guarantee.

I find it is well worth having to do a small additional run to Walmart or Giant. The more careful I am with what I spend the less I have to work, and the longer my money will last.

How could it say beef and it was up to 100% horse meat? Doesn't make sense.

Their supplier lied to them.

The 2013 horse meat incident affected many grocery stores, including Findus, Tesco, Aldi, Safeway, Auchan, Casino, Carrefour, Cora, Picard and Monoprix.

Any store that sold products from Comigel might have had horsemeat. Comigel blamed their sub-supplier Atlantique Alimentaire.

The horse meat scandal was much more of a big deal in Europe. It affected many supermarkets and major manufacturers of frozen foods. The original supplier correctly labeled the meat as horse meat, and it was illegally re-labelled and resold as beef.

At the Manassas Aldi's we are looking to partner with Arthur Treacher's to provide a fish and chips bar. We are also going to expand our selection of Fanta flavors.

They lock up their carts.
They use minimalist and efficient staffing, stocking, marketing, packaging, and distribution methods.
They only offer a limited selection of the most commonly used items, and most of the stuff is private label (they basically send their containers to the brand name factories and they fill them with the exact same stuff others are charging three times more for).

It works and works very well.

Aldi does not carry Fanta. The German folk thinks it (along w/ that AT Fish Smeg) sucks donkey balls. Carry on Little Faggot.....It's James fingerin Sammy's Ass.

The Aldi near me is a shit show. Though I haven't made it into another one, the consensus amongst folks who like it is that is an exception not the rule. That said, Lidl is coming and I'm interested to see what they can do. Monstrous amounts of money at their disposal, a similar concept to Aldi(though reputation suggests better executed), and hyper aggressive expansion plans. I'd suspect Trader Joe's and Whole Foods will be watching extremely closely. Aldi knows what's coming, I swear one of Lidl's core values is the utter and absolute domination of Aldi

Aldi does suck it. I went in there for a six pack of raspberry Fanta and some cornmeal (to make hush puppies), but they only had grape Fanta. And no cornmeal.

Except Aldi and Trader Joe's are owned by 2 brothers, so it is a family owned situation.

Lidl is going directly after Walmart and Target.

Aldi and Trader Joe's are owned by two very distinct companies that separated many years ago.

If Aldi does not work for you, then be our guest and go somewhere else. They have plenty of business. We all love the place, in spite of the occasional problems, and will laugh all the way to the bank. Every time I swing through another store I just cringe and thank my lucky stars that Aldi exists and is so close to my home and other typical shops. I will take my Aldi receipts over to Lidl when they open if they are close enough and do price comparisons.

I drove by the new Annandale location. The facade is up. It is in where the old A and P used to be, right at the corner of Gallows and Columbia Pike, right across from the historic white Methodist church. They will probably have to beef up their Asian and Hispanic selections ha ha. I would estimate summer/ fall opening. That is a very busy intersection and they will probably rock it.

Magruders did fine in that location with the older folks.
When Bloom went in they only lasted about a year and a half.
Annandale is much different now, unless they cater to Asians, Aldi might not last long.

Everyone should try and prevent Aldi from coming to your neighborhood. They only encourage darkies and mexicunts from shopping there.

The so-called "two very distinct companies" are considered the SAME company by the European Union. They share suppliers, consumer data, market intelligence, and even some software purchases. The ownership may also overlap more than assumed, particularly among the non-related owners. Although the products sold in Aldi and Trader Joes do not correspond 1-to-1, the products common to both stores usually differ only in the graphics of their packaging.

I tried shopping at Aldi a few times and stopped. All the illegals shop there and have demonstrated a propensity for opening grocery items, sampling them, and then putting them back on the shelf.

I purchased a can of cake icing once and when I got ready to use it a week later it was then, that I discovered it had already been opened and there was a big finger scoop of icing taken out of it. On another occasion I purchased some jam and it was the same situation. Some foreign national had eaten some of it and put it back on the shelf. Another time Aldi had roll on deodorant on a shelf. But by then I had wised up, so inspected it carefully before purchasing it and discovered arm pit hairs in it. That was the last straw for me.

So... No, I don't care how much more money I spend shopping elsewhere. At least I won't have to worry about being poisoned or catching some disease due to the sub-humans lack of common sense or hygiene. Hurry up President Trump and start deporting these assholes!

Their milk spoils too fast. I used to buy at some of the other stores as well. The Giant and Costco seem to last beyond their sell by dates. I would've expected Safeway's to be okay, but theirs always seem to go bad in about a week.

Their vegetables, fruits, and meats are avoids.

At CVS in Annandale a few days ago, I noticed that about half of
the candy in the Easter aisle had been opened and sampled.

There was even a bag of Lindor truffles that had been neatly slit
down the back with a knife, with a bunch of the candy removed!
Other candy just had the package opened normally and eaten.

Took a fair amount of searching and inspecting to find some that
hadn't been opened and eaten...

I find shit opened in the Giant (Bailey's) all the time, too...

the USA doesn't need a food shortage

That's I buy from USA farms when I can.

The stuff at the store marked as "from a port in Maryland - ahold" is all imported - and sold by hindu. Even peanuts - which is a strong USA products.

fuck urban sprawl - it shouldn't be allowed on farms - the USA shouldn't be dependant on China factories, imported groceries, or foreign telephone companies. the country needs to be alive and self-sustained especially in case of war

not dependent is what i said

News flash! Grocery wars on the horizon! Lidl is slowly moving into the area with new openings in Woodbridge and Fredericksburg with Chantilly opening on the immediate horizon. Almost identical business model as Aldi with slight differences in presentation and I do not believe either one will back down. Aldi's milk prices are an indication of their willingness to compete. Also, Earth Fare has opened in Camp Washington which will give Wegmans a bit of competition in that segment. Nice produce and meats, good bakery and food bars, etc. The only losers will be the traditional grocers which essentially have a broken business model that must be fixed if they wish to survive in the long run.
