Best place to buy fresh fish in Fairfax?

As title states.

Tried Giant, they wanted way too much money for fish that looked 3 days old.

H-Mart looked interesting but a bit dirty for my tastes.

Wegmans/whole foods, overpriced. I don't think I want to pay $11 for one tiny piece of trout.

Guess it's the DC wharf for best balance of freshness and price?

I don't care if it is organic wild caught all that BS- just good fish at a good price.

Thx FfxU. You all are clutch with the food recs!

Fresh fish is expensive...as it's all flown in, in most cases. If you want quality you have to pay.

Mostly it's trucked in and, while called 'fresh fish' that really means that it's just not been hard frozen. Here and there you may find somebody flying something special in via overnight but even then it's likely several days out of the water by the time that it gets to you. Not anything wrong with that but not really the same thing as actual real fresh fish.

Going to the DC fish market doesn't buy you anything. Virtually all of that is trucked in and just sold in a setting near the water. There's no fishing fleet around here to speak of for it to have come from otherwise. Nothing at any grocery stores around here will be truly fresh. Most all will have been flash frozen and thawed.

As they say, if you want fresh fish, then catch it yourself.

The one time I briefly went in the Lotte in Ravensworth, it had that fishy stench. Anyone know if they have anything good?

If it smells "fishy" then it's not fresh.

Seafood should have little to no fishy smell other than maybe very light.

The first paragraph and the footnote.

Assuming OP is serious (always a chance, right?): We've given up on everywhere except Wegman's and Whole Foods. Quality elsewhere just isn't there. And no, it ain't cheap.
