A 43-year-old man who was a member of the Bloods street gang pleaded guilty Wednesday to recruiting new members on the campus of Fairfax High School.
Prosecutors said Theodore A. Olds, 43, acknowledged being a member of the Elm Street Piru set of the Bloods, a Los Angeles gang that has spread nationwide. Students at Fairfax High told police that they were approached by Olds's 17-year-old daughter and asked to join the Bloods, and that Olds ordered members to pay $80 in monthly dues to be used for bail money, emergencies and drugs, Fairfax Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Marc J. Birnbaum said. Olds himself also recruited on the high school campus, Birnbaum said.
Olds and his daughter lived in Fairfax City but later moved to Manassas, where they were arrested in September. Olds also acknowledged committing robberies on behalf of the Bloods, Birnbaum said. He pleaded guilty to six gang-related felonies, each with a maximum of 10 years in prison. His sentencing is set for April 9.
