My uncle owns Lee's Auto Center on Columbia Pike by Lake Barcroft and he just told my father that the county has taken over his land and buildings under imminent domain law. According to court documents and zoning filings, the county is going to begin demolition next month to make way for a new housing facility designed to house refugees from other countries. This includes annexing the 1.7 acres my uncle owns and tearing down the main garage and four outbuildings. They are planning to erect a four story, concrete block structure that will be divided into multiple housing units. The area is to be secured by a fence topped with electrified concertina wire.

Wny aren't the residents of Lake Barcroft up in arms about this? How can the county do this?

A DMV, a homeless shelter, and now a refugee center, they're going to keep trying to dump something in this neighborhood.

This is terrible. Barcroft is a good, clean neighborhood. The last thing we need is a bunch of illegals bringing down property values and dragging down our schools.

Never yet met a liberal who's been willing to host an illegal in their own home. Go figure!

This area and our schools have enough ESL students, pick the areas with the lowest free and reduced lunch populations and stick them there.

There is no such thing as imminent domain. Expect to be served with a summons to remedial civics in the near future. Second, your post will gain credibility if you can provide some more detail. Cite sources. If your uncle received notice that the county is initiating eminent domain procedures, he must have gotten something in writing. Give us some pithy quotes.

I just called Lee's Auto and they aren't going anywhere.

Refugee center being developed starting next year. Demolition starting this year. Look it up. It is public record. If he isn't telling the public yet, I'm not surprised.

Lake Barcroft isn't going to be the same after these people start coming in. Those new townhouses are already not selling.

I'm very close to that area and selling in the Spring. Going to ask for $490 for a 3-bedroom rambler. No way will it be worth that in a few years but I think I can get it now. That whole area gets more and more crowded every year.

It's because the proximity to an Arthur Treacher's is too great. if there was a closer store with great fish and chips, your property value would go waaaaaaay up.
