What does this have to do with Fairfax? And why are you wishing death on people or expressing happiness that an American is dead? I realize he used free speech which you detest, I guess that is why you are glad he is dead.

Actually, Safire, like George Will, was one of the few "conservatives" I could agree with on certain things. And regardless of political affiliation, the only person whose death I would celebrate would be of Bin Laden and company.

He absolutely was one of the top chreerleaders in getting us to war in Iraq.

Not whooping it up that he's dead, but I can't say I'll miss the old creep.

When you get to hell, Vince, Satan will stick you on his thorned cock and use you as a condom as he ass-rapes Safire and Ted Kennedy.

Hopefully he'll post the video online.

Kristol was a neocon. He was THE founding neocon.

But Safire? He was just a conservative.

There is a huge difference. At least there was. Nutbags on the left and nutbags on the right seem to think that the only true conservative is a neoconservative, so I guess in your world, and the nutjobs on the right's world, you are correct.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
The function of conservatives is not to meet every liberal program or scheme with a denunciation or a destructive counterscheme, but rather to weigh its advantages and defects, supporting the first and challenging the second. A declaration of ideological warfare against liberalism is by its nature profoundly unconservative. It meets perceived radicalism with a counterradicalism of its own.

I find it particularly ill though to claim that you are rejoicing for anyone's death, regardless of the issue.

I will concur with WTL though - when/if Bin laden is ever confirmed dead I will definitely have a sense of "gladness" about it. Not sure I would call it rejoicing. Gives a good insight to the minds of folks that feel they have to rejoice over any persons death though. I would probably have been rejoicing if I had been alive when they reported Hitler's death - so I am sure there are times it could happen, just not something I could imagine for 99.99999% of the people I know of.

I didn't even "rejoice" over Saddam's death. In fact, I found it kind of pitiful, for all involved (but especially, he was pitiful in death.)

I actually felt bad for him and the people of Iraq. We'd of done them a favor if someone had killed him in the hideout hole.

Just imagine a well placed bomb anytime between 1992 and 2003.

I'm sure whoever replaced him would have eventually shifted more towards the west, or at least would have been less tyrannical.

But either way, it would have remained an intact, functioning country of largely middle class professionals not inclined to attacking American soldiers.

That would have been a huge favor to a peoples who generally tended to be very western and pro-american.

I agree - although he had so many doubles in place it was hard for anyone to really pinpoint him.

The problem was, you would have had to kill his sons as well, otherwise it could have gotten much worse very fast. Those two were tortured psychopaths that enjoyed inflicting pain on others.

I'm sure all the ministers and other bureaucrats would not have allowed the half-wit sons to take charge of Iraq after they suffered through 30+ years under the much more intelligent father.

I could imagine that on the very same day that an American bomb took out Saddam, both sons and many ministers that the others didn't trust would have found themselves the victims of very untimely deaths.

Glory Be indeed. Ted is Dead and Byrd is soon to follow. If only we could get another few to fly Wellstone Air.

By the way, is Vince too stupid to know when to post a thread in off-topic?

The question is rhetorical as we all know the answer.

Who have I rejoiced about? Maybe I have made off-color jokes about a celebrity dying, but that's not the same thing as rejoicing over their deaths. It's not like I hoped and prayed that Michael Jackson or Patrick Swayze would die.

A man who is now in my extended family believes saffire was part of a huge right-wing conspiracy against him.... makes for some fun reading.

It's really not cool to gloat over someone's death unless you were the person who killed them.

Jokes Safire would have appreciated:

What the difference between a dead neo-con in the middle of the road and a dead skunk in the middle of the road?

There are skid marks in front of the skunk.

What's a 1,000 neo-cons at the bottom of the ocean?

A good start.

How can you tell when a neo-con is spreading inaccurate, non-sensical gibberish?

His lips are moving.

Vince I would be curious as to what your definition of a neo-conservative is?
