What is a good tip for pizza delivery driver in Fairfax county?

I just got two pan pizzas and a two litre diet pepsi and I gave the guy a 7 dollar and change tip. He looked a little disappointed, did I tip too low? This was pappa john btw.

In this day and age I seriously think 10 bucks is the minimum tip for anything. I only give those cardboard sign guys 2 or 3 bucks though but that's not really a tip.

It is good enough. He can say thank you and head on down the risd. I had a guy once who turned up his nose and handed me back the tip I gave him. I have not done delivery since.

For pizza delivery I usually do a buck an item with a $5 minimum. I know the ever-increasing "delivery fees" don't go to the driver and I'm sorry they have to suffer, but a pizza delivery guy coming to my door with a couple pies and some breadsticks is getting five or six bucks. That added to a delivery fee is approaching $10. If it's a big party or something the buck an item adds up to more.

I've never had a delivery guy complain to me.

When ordering from Papa John's in Fairfax, request delivery by Katie.

I take the total, calculate a decent (20%) tip, then subtract the fucking delivery charge.

Example:
$20 order
$3 delivery charge
Gross tip: $4
Net/actual tip: $1

Fuck that delivery charge. That is what the tip IS fuckwads. They just don't get it when I explain it, but tough shit. Tell your manager to stop adding that retarded charge on there.

Oh, and then there was the motherfucker who works at Papa Johns in West Springfield who delivered a pizza to my neighbor, then peel out of his driveway and accelerated to about 50 mph in his rice burning piece of fucking shit right past my kid and the nieghbor's kids who were shooting hoops at the end of my driveway. Until I got in my car and followed him back to the store and told him if I ever saw his fucking ass in my neighborhood I would put a fucking brick through his windshield then drag his fucking ass out through the jagged hole.

I fucking hate pizza delivery people. They are worse than taxi drivers... well, not that bad. Fucking scum of the earth.

I figured it was you. It was the sickliest looking turd I have ever seen. Mostly grasses and sticks and what I think was a bunch of camel-cum holding it all together. Maybe I should have given you a better tip last time. Either that or just offered to fuck your ugly ass wife through her burka.

I don't even order pizza delivery anymore since so many places charge a delivery fee. Three dollars in some cases!!!

Cheaper to make my own at home. Hell, I'll get a frozen pizza and toss some extra toppings on it before I order delivery. Giant and Safeway store brand frozen pizzas are pretty good.

This. You tip the same as a server in a restaurant who takes your order and tends your table for the entire meal. You pay the price of the order, plus 20% of that total for the tip, plus taxes, plus delivery fee.

Better, pick up the pizza yourself and save some money.

Better yet, don't order the pizza at all, eat a can full of tuna plus a pound of kale, bang out 50 pullups and 100 pushups. And save $15 plus lose some lard and build some muscle in the bargain.

Home Run Inn is the best frozen 'zza anywhere. Harris Teeter sells it. They only sell the big one anymore. There's also a smaller one, that's enough for 1, but Harris Teeter doesn't sell the small 1 any more.

I agree about the 10 dollar minimum, I only get delivery pizza or chinese 3 or 4 times a year so I always give 10 bucks plus whatever fraction of a dollar is leftover.

Avoid Mclean and Great falls, driveways are long and the tips are short. Asians in Reston or Annandale tip the best.

Yes, yes she does. I love it. The harder the better. When boot marks are left behind (no pun intended), that is the best.

As far as pizza delivery tips, I do like one of the other posters does: Take the total, calc the tip and subtract the delivery charge from the tip.

The tip IS the goddamn delivery charge!

It would be like your waiter/waitress charging a food delivery charge for bringing food to your table.

$6 dollars minus the delivery fee. And I and don't care who pockets the delivery fee. If I have to pay a delivery fee, that is deducted from the full tip.

it is not $10 or $20

if that were the case a driver could EASILY make 70-80K a year

a driver usually drops 2-5 deliveries at a time - so even at $10 they would make $20-50 for 30 minutes of work - they do many deliveries in a shift, so lets say a minimum of 10 would equal $200-500 a night (and most do 20 to 30+ deliveries a night)

so - everyone quit your shitty jobs and go deliver pizzas for 52K to 129K a year

I delivered not long ago and anything around $5 tip was GREAT - 95% were less and 5% were higher

Given reasonably friendly and timely service, it also depends of how much effort the driver has to go through to get the pizza or food to you. In one relative's neighborhood right behind the Paisanos up the street, its only three blocks away and no traffic lights (delivery is better to do if weather is bad outside, otherwise can do pickup) so tip drivers slightly less for that, vs. delivery coming through much traffic and traffic lights. Also I was once in a business class hotel for corporate travel for weeks, on the 7th floor, despite the otherwise better quality of the hotel, it had slooow elevators. Those food delivery guys who delivered my food to my upper floor room, I gave extra on the tip.

The minimum tip for up to 3 pizzas is TEN DOLLARS! Each additional pizza is 3 DOLLARS and add a buck for every side or bottle of soda.
Follow these guidelines for spit free pizza. I would never spit on a pizza but plenty of drivers will.

Dominos charges one price for pick up, a bigger price for delivery - plus they add a delivery charge on top of the higher delivery price. Then you add more on top of that???? I used to pay nothing more if they had a delivery charge.

Now, I'll add a buck or 2 if the drive is more than 5 minutes away from the restaurant. Can't see paying $15 for a pizza I can pick up myself for $5.99.

$7.00 is way higher than %10-%15, and because the person wasn't personable, didn't wait your table or wipe it, i don't see how

waitresses work off tips and might get $3/hr - Domino's drivers are on federal minimum wage (2x as much as waitress min. wage) and get $9.00 before tips

^^ oops i did forget. you should know to check if delivery price is the same as in-store pickup. if it is same price, then obviously the store isn't paying the employee for use of their own vehicle

the tradition is about providing wages not about being polite. who taught you about tipping ?
