Does that mean we end school a few days earlier in June?

Dream on! Some years you win and some years you lose. The one reason you may win this year and have the year cut short is because the school budget is busted.

No snow days=13 days teachers work for free. Give us (elementary teachers at least)our Monday planning time back!

This is not true. We have to have 180 student days on the calendar. If we use a day, then we drop below the required 180 and start counting the hours. The fact is the law requires 180 days on the calendar so there are no days to give back.

I am an elementary teacher and I much prefer what we have over the early release Mondays. When we had those days many of the Monday afternoons were taken up by meetings or training. Now, we have planning time that is protected at the elementary level. It's much better than it was before.

Oh, we are not working 13 days for free. We have 194 days in our contract. If we don't use a snow day we are actually working our contract. Are you really an elementary teacher or are you just trolling, trying to get a rise out of people?

"For every unused snow day, the school year will be shortened by one day." - Section 5, paragraph 3 of the FCPS code.

So, yes, you don't have to go to school for those unused days.

Haha. Ok "administrator".

The fact is there have to be 180 student days. There are no days to "give back". This was asked at a recent STAC meeting. It has come up numerous times.

Incorrect. There are 180 base student-days. Again I will cite Section 5, paragraph 3 - "For every unused snow day, the school year will be shortened by one day."

This was upheld in the last FCPS school board meeting.

Yes. There are 180 student days. State law requires that as a minimum amount. We have the minimum. There are no days to "give back". The school year will not be shortened.

What code are you referencing?

Is it spring break yet?

It it weren't for students, parents, and administrators, my school would be a great place to work.

If you're so stupid that you need more planning time to teach children that cat begins with "c," then I do not trust you with our children. Please quit.

If you have kids, and you think its so simple, then keep your kids at home and then when that kid or those kids become young adults come share with the public schools your strategies and please share how successful they were.

Per school code, for every unused inclement weather day, one day shall be subtracted from the school calendar as long as the 180 student-day minimum has been met. That has been part of Fairfax County school code since the school year ending 1968.

The unused snow days referred to the pre-Garza time, when the calendar had 183 days for students. Three of those were built-in inclement weather days. The calendar for the past few years has only included 180 days for students. The reason we have so many so-called snow days is because when we got rid of early release Monday's, elementary schools no longer trailed behind middle and high schools in terms of annual student hours, and we had enough extra hours to account for many more snow days. We have to have 180 days unless we lose some to inclement weather, so no, we won't get out early.

I would also like to remind this forum that the posting of Fairfax County School faculty and support staff salaries is illegal and punishable by both fines and jail time.

First, these is nothing in the school code about taking away days if you don't use snow days. This person is full of shit.

As for posting salaries, they're all public record, you dumbass idiot. You must be a graduate of a Betsy DeVos Michigan charter school, you're so friggin' stupid.

Fairfax County Public School Code Section 5, paragraph 3 states, "For every unused snow day, the school year will be shortened by one day." This is public information and is being posted on public internet forums and news media where incorrect information is being propagated.

Salary information for public officials is public information and can be obtained under the freedom of information act. It cannot be republished without express, written consent of the information holder. This is codified in state and federal laws.

For help with these statues or to ask additional questions, please contact the superintendent's office at 571-423-1010.

I go to high school and in our agendas it has printed that unused snow days wont be given back. Pretty sure that is the word to go by.

Please report this errant information dissemination to our offices which can be contacted at 571-423-1010. We will deal with the offending faculty who propagated this misinformation promptly and directly.

Again, for the record, for every unused snow day, the school year will be shortened by one day. This is official FCPS policy and will be re-broadcast on social media and traditional media outlets.

Incorrect. This information is not accurate and should not be construed as official FCPS policy. Pizza is distributed to students per the cafeteria menus published on our affiliate provider's website. Please refer to http://fcps.nutrislice.com/ for more information.
