Burke Junction
Date: February 02, 2017 07:47AM

So KHovnannia Homes, after clearing a parcel of historic forest on the corner of Guinea Rd and Zion, is building 17 one million dollar mini-mansions crammed into a small tract of land. Why would anyone want to live where there is minimal privacy? Not only will you have neighbors on top of each other, but anyone driving on Zion or Guinea will get an open view of some of these houses. Plus the busy noisy traffic right there with Target, VRE, etc. Give me a luxury home nestled on the end of a peaceful cul-de-sac, preferably backing to woods. Seventeen? Looks like profit over quality of life to me. No thanks.

I'd buy one.
We use mans as a place to hang Tuesday - Thursday so we can run our businesses. The real relaxing takes place at our Smith Mtn. lake house, the O/C beach condo, or the boat. Every weekend is a four day weekend for us.

Whats the address? Might need a second.

Historic forest??? That's a clump of trees.

hahaha. They will probably be condo-houses too. People love that shit. No yard and lots of indoor living. It’s the Wall-E syndrome.

Sounds like nice place to live. I mean, what with the Target and all of the fine restaurants Burke has to offer.

Villa Bella is pretty good. There was a barbecue place but it closed down. Tippys Taco and a Dairy Queen round out Burke Dining. La Tolteca is in Fairfax Station nearby.

Yes. Bella Villa is pretty good. Slow service when busy, but good. The BBQ place is now a dunkin donuts. The BBQ was good, but the sides sucked it.

The thai place by Chipotle is pretty good too.

The joke is on anyone who buys there. That is the epicenter of the worst part of Fairfax County. The whole area is filled with white trash and social experimentation and defended by a few 65-70 year olds who are still riding the high they got in 1976 when the area was the swinging dick. They were young and relevant, people were obsessed with old English kitsch and there was apparently no such thing as a high end evening/weekend food/bar scene anywhere in America. Since then, not one fucking thing has changed there while the entire United States has warp-speed surpassed it in quality of life - including Bumblefuckknuckle, Arkansas. When someone dares propose a new restaurant, public hearings and proffers are demanded, and the "planning commissions" filled with these irrelevant morons swing into action to either chase it away or severely delay it. The entire area is dying a slow, mossy siding and Burke Giant death and people are too hung up on the fact that "it's Fairfax" to wake up and address it.

I honestly hope that put some trees along the edge of property along Guinea Road. Otherwise, who would want to peer out their window and see an electrical substation?

I dunno. I tried that BBQ place (BBQ Country?) every few years since the 1990s. Food sucked every time I tried it.

Dude, the Tippy's Taco closed 20 years ago!
You need to get out more.

Besides the Cafe Rio next to the Giant is way better than any Tippy's Taco.
BBQ Country always sucked. The Dunkin Donuts is a better replacement.

Cava, Five Guys, and Chick-fil-A all open this year.

Ha! Look at the Manasshole try to throw shade!
Sure, Five Guys are everywhere. Whatever, I don't even eat there.

Chick-fil-A only has 8 restaurants in Fairfax County. (Again, I'm not even going to eat there)

Cava Grill only has 6 restaurants open in FC.
None in Reston, Herndon, Annandale, Chantilly, Springfield, Centreville.
So, no, everywhere else doesn't have "three or four'

Didn't try to throw shade, whatever the fuck that means, I did. Your hamlet sucks but congrats on doing a market analysis for Fairfax County. You can't polish a turd. CFA was in "public hearings" two years ago and University Mall has been in "public hearings" since 2008. Leave. Stop defending. Leave. Come to grips with having to look your nosey, wrinkled housewife neighbors you are doing the unthinkable and shedding your 22032 for normal neighbors, lots of community hangout spots and newer houses that don't flash up against a 1963 dutch colonial with algae all over it that still cost $750k.

17 houses???? They're going to fit 17 in there? Damn.

Wonder how many they're going to cram in at the intersection of Coffer Woods and Burke Lake where they're also getting ready to build (don't know if it's the same builder).

I'm constantly amazed by the number of these new "luxury" homes going up over here. Do people really want to live here that badly that they'll buy a mini mcmansion on a tiny little lot where your house is so close to your neighbor you can practically hold hands if you both reach out your side windows? WTF? These small little clusters of homes going up are so random and isolated. They belong to no neighborhood. It's always one little street off of a major road.

Even worse is those houses they're putting up on that little sliver of land on Burke Lake Rd right across from the entrance to LBSS. Seriously?! God people must be desperate.

Fairfax County approved several new small developments in the Newington Forest and Sangster Elementary school districts. One is off of Gambrill Road near the Park and Ride lot by the Sunoco. Another is off of Hooes Road and Valleyfield Drive where a community of 24 town homes will be built. Another is going into South Run Forest off of Northedge Drive/Modisto Lane where 12 - 15 luxury single family homes will be built on lot that was transferred back to Van Mete as part of a land swap deal a few years ago. Clearing is scheduled to start next month and construction is supposed to start this Spring

Not sure where you're getting the info? But the only land available on Hooes by Valleyfield is still for sale on Zillow.

Fairfax County also doesn't have a development.

I drive by the 'For Sale' sign all the time.

if you bought 2 stories of a high rise, you have the same floor space, ALLOT of windows (good), and none of the famous cost of mansion (or large home infact) upkeep

ask Trump if he'd rather have a whole floor of a high rise or a 6 bedroom 3 car garage house in a neighborhood on a septic system (typical new fairfax) ... see what he says

Are you actually using Trump's lifestyle as a high bar?

Bwhaaaaaaa!

(And it's 'a lot' of windows.)

I'll take a small contemporary over that gold encrusted shit show any day.

Across the street from that Burke Lake Road/Coffer Woods proposed housing development, those two homes that were built in the 1950's will be torn down to make way for 12 townhomes.

This project must be a total bust. They posted signs with "Half Price Options" last week. Also, what is going on with the construction in the closed lane? It's been going on for months. The lane barrier right before Target is dangerous for drivers trying to squeeze by up New Guinea Rd. Looks like construction of the homes is stalled after their "model". They should abort this bad idea, sell it back to the county at cost, and build a state of the art dog park.

Their not going to be single family homes. They are going to be Quadplexes.
They have the look of a single family house but really are four condos. Each side looks like the front of the house. They work well for retirement communities but suck for families. The builder probably worked out a special deal to get the zoning.

Are the toilets going to be low flow? Cause every god damn time I stop at the 7-11 on Burke Commons Rd and grab a hot dog and a bag of funyuns, I have about 4 minutes before I shit myself. Had to pull over last month and sprint to commons community center .... I did not make it. If you see a pair of dress slacks in the street on Reins Common Ct, waist size 48, DON'T GO NEAR THEM.

Fortune House is fantastic. Villa Bella is good, can't beat Rafagino's, though.

BBQ World was a staple from my childhood, was kinda pissed to see it go, not much in the way of good BBQ joints close to Burke (Red Hot and Blue in Fairfax is junk).
