Virginia Democrat Attorney General Mark Herring and Democrat Gov. Terry McAuliffe announce the commonwealth will pay to sue the Trump administration over the temporary travel and refugee ban.

WASHINGTON — In an obvious and expensive political stunt, the Democrat leadership of Virginia is joining a federal lawsuit, paying to challenge the Trump administration over the president’s executive order that temporarily bars immigration for citizens of certain majority-Muslim countries and suspends the United States’ refugee program until participants can be properly vetted.

The suit was announced by Gov. Terry McAuliffe and Attorney General Mark Herring, both Democrats, Tuesday afternoon in Richmond.

Herring called the order unlawful and unconstitutional and un-American. He offered no facts to back up his accusations.

He said it was necessary to intervene to “protect the commonwealth’s own sovereign interests and to vindicate its residents’ civil rights.”

“There are countless residents of the commonwealth – people who live in Virginia, who work in Virginia or who attend schools in Virginia, whose whose lives and livelihoods have been or will be severely disrupted by the order,” Herring claimed, without citing any examples.

Virginia is intervening in a case that focuses primarily on lawful residents affected by the ban, all who have been admitted. Administration officials have said that lawful permanent residents, typically known as “green-card” holders, will routinely receive waivers from the ban.

The temporary travel ban suspends entry of all refugees into the United States for 120 days. Citizens from seven predominantly Muslim countries are blocked from entry into the United States for 90 days.

Fortunately, Virginia is well funded and can do this.

It's not like we could use another million dollars or so for schools or roads.

Nobody is ending immigration, they are simply closing the faucet that the Obamans opened without explaination. Why were we never told WHY it was important to take all comers? Why was this never explained in ideological terms? We just kept hearing about enforcement becoming less and less rigorous, UNTIL we reached this point.

Its being fixed now. Your sky is NOT falling.

I am ashamed too; but more than that, I’m angry. I didn’t vote for him and doing this goes in the completely opposite direction from what I would like to see happen. What can I do? Is there any recourse?

McAuliffe and Herring spend a million dollars on a Federal lawsuit that will not help Virginia in any way.

Then they complain the schools have no money.

How much money do you think it would take to buy a Trump appointment, which comes with a three-year lobbying ban and other restrictions?

Go ahead Democrats, keep pushing this fake narrative.

Still mad about paying Hillary Clinton $2.1 billion to lose?

LOL! Such a simple mind.

Pleads 'fake narrative' and then the next sentence gives a 'fake narrative'.
Use your head, Snowflake.
Relax, Breathe ...

ALL the campaigns didn't make it to $2.1 billion.

Amount raised by candidates: $1.3 billion
Amount raised by super PACs supporting them: $615 million

Don't like the campaign contribution game either myself but that's a separate matter. And legal. As opposed to Terry's scam 'car' company being a straight up front for shady EB-5 visas sold to Chinese investors through Hillary's bro's Gulf Coast Funds shell company.

A controversial, fraud-filled “pay-to-play” visa program used by a top Department of Homeland Security (DHS) official to do favors for Hillary Clinton’s brother may soon be a thing of the past.

California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley filed a bill last week to eliminate the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) EB-5 investor visa program, which grants foreign investors green cards in exchange for creating at least 10 jobs with an investment of $500,000 in economically depressed areas or $1 million in better-off zip codes.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Inspector General found in 2015 that then-Deputy DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas gave preferential treatment to Clinton’s brother, Anthony Rodham, who ran a USCIS visa center. The center was shut down by DHS in September 2016 for failing to meet program requirements. (RELATED: DHS Shuts Down Investor Visa Center Run By Hillary Clinton’s Brother)

“The EB-5 program has been rife with fraud and national security weaknesses,” said Grassley, who is chairman of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary. “It has also strayed from Congress’ original intent to spur economic development in rural and depressed areas. For years, I’ve worked with bipartisan colleagues in good faith to reform it.

“Unfortunately, despite its many flaws, EB-5 proponents are apparently content with the status quo, and that’s unacceptable. I was hoping that it would not come to this point, but absent serious efforts to bring about reforms, we need to take the necessary steps to wind down the program and completely mitigate fraud, abuse and threats to our security.”

Republicans and Democrats have criticized the program, which doesn’t measure if investments made in it actually create the required number of new jobs. The critics also argue the program invites scams and encourages investment in wealthy area.

The EB-5 program issues about 10,000 visas annually, with the majority of investors in recent years hailing from China. President Donald Trump has promised to be tough on China and illegal immigration.

The DHS IG and the Government Accountability Office (GAO) have issued scathing reports outlining poor oversight and fraud in the last two years.

“The EB-5 program is inherently flawed,” Feinstein said. “It says that U.S. citizenship is for sale. It is wrong to have a special pathway to citizenship for the wealthy while millions wait in line for visas.

“I agree that the time has come to end EB-5. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has filed charges in case after case of fraud connected to this troubled program. I look forward to working with Chairman Grassley to advance our legislation,” Feinsten said.

Federal judge lets Virginia challenge Trump's vetting order
http://www.politico.com/story/2017/02/trump-travel-ban-virginia-234609

U.S. District Court Judge Leonie Brinkema allowed the state of Virginia to intervene in the litigation, keeping the legal challenge alive.

Brinkema was also harshly critical of the review and implementation of Trump's order. "It's quite clear not all the thinking went into it that should have gone into it," she said. "As a result, there was chaos."

Only with respect to green card holders which has for the most part laready been resolved. Does not affect the (non)"ban" itself.

Notice the careful wording here. He said residents', not citizens.

Hillary Clinton's campaign ALONE spent $1.2 billion. That's only a fraction of what was donated and spent.

http://nypost.com/2016/12/09/hillary-clintons-losing-campaign-cost-a-record-1-2b/

By your numbers, that doesn't leave much for all the other candidates through the primaries. It's way low. Outside organizations (unions, PACs, so-called non-affiliates) collected and spent at least a billion dollars more.

The Clintons have raised $3 billion in support of their political and philanthropic efforts over four decades. Nearly all the funds went to support six federal campaigns and their family foundation.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/clinton-money/

Granted, that's over many years.

But whether it's a single billion dollars, or more, the point is still that people who wanted to be ambassadors or wanted regulations in their favor, (Google and and many more) lost billions investing in the Clintons.

President Trump has far fewer, almost minuscule, political paybacks coming due. That's just one reason he can make America great again.

One judge today refused to extend an injunction. The others will fall too.

By the time they expire in a few months, other orders or legislation will be in place.

The Democrats can't win this one. It's all noise.
