--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Case History
This unidentified woman committed suicide on December 18, 1996. She left two 50$ bills one for the coroner and one for the cemetery with the same typed note:
Deceased by own hand...prefer no autopsy. Please order cremation with funds provided. Thank you, Jane Doe
She was located inside Pleasant Valley Memorial Park, a small cemetery in Annandale, Virginia. There was a clear plastic sheet on the ground. Next to the sheet was an 8" Christmas tree, adorned with gold balls and red ribbons.
In addition to drinking brandy (she had a 0.14 blood-alcohol level) and swallowing Valium, the victim had two empty juice bottles and a new roll of masking tape in her knapsack. She had no receipts in her pockets to enable police to trace her movements. In her backpack, she also had a Jeff Foxworthy "You might be a redneck" cassette and a "Monty Python and the Holy Grail tape She had a portable tape player, the headphones over her ears and had listened to a recording of comedians Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner doing their "2000 year old man" routine. She had placed a plastic bag over her head and tied it off with tape. This made her suffocate.
The site she chose, Pleasant Valley, probably wouldn't be known to a drifter. She lay down near the section of the cemetery where infants are buried, but not near any particular grave, and most of the stones nearby were fairly recent.

Interesting, like the site said, she wasn't a drifter. I wonder why she chose to be anonymous?

Blessed are the murderous.

I think she had ties to the land and I am not the only one who feels that way.

The Pleasant Valley Cemetery was one of the first integrated cemeteries in this area. I would not be surprised if she had a loved one buried near the place where she was found dead.

The property also had been owned by the Gooding family years ago.

Civil War historians know of the skirmish at Billy Gooding's Tavern.

Near the Pleasant View Cemetery is the Gooding-Seaton Cemetery.Gooding/Seaton Family Cemetery

Located on the west side of the entrance to the Little River United Church of Christ,
8410 Little River Turnpike, Annandale, Va.

The will of WILLIAM GOODING (1857) reserves a "burying ground and one half acre around it" (Wb A2:499). The current boundaries measure @ 35' by @550', however there are unmarked burials in the grassy area between the gravestones and the church driveway. All but one of the eighteen cut markers are clustered in the northern third of the plot (the HOWARD marker being the exception) and range from beautifully cut marbles to homemade markers of fieldstone and slate. A low brick wall surrounds the graves of PETER, MARY, and ESTHER GOODING. Gooding descendants report that slave burials were made to the north of the family burial ground. The cemetery is wooded and receives periodic maintenance.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For specific burials go to :

http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/library/branches/vr/cem/cem042.htm

I think there is some connection, but I have no idea what it is.

There are many unsolved cases in Fairfax.

For example, does anyone know or care about these?

A couple of things I find odd about this woman.

First how did she get to the cemetary? If shes from the area maybe she took a bus or a cab and the driver would remember her carrying the tree.

Secondly, the irony of a suicidally depressed woman listening to comedy tapes as shes dying.

Thirdly that she chose to "celebrate her last christmas" in an area of freshly dug infant graves.

Forth that one of the photos of the backpack shows it was hand sewn. If shes rich enough for sax fifth avenue clothes why bother sewing the backpack unless she could nolonger afford to replace it.

Fifth I wonder if nursing homes, hospitals, home care agencies were checked to see if she worked there.

Last did the ME find any evidence of cancer or other terminal or long term illness?

Not a cop; just someone who gets a kick out of helping solve cold cases. "Armchair detective" if you will.

So if you want to murder someone and avoid an autopsy that might discover evidence, make sure you enclose a note with the body requesting there not to be an autopsy, along with a small bribe. Seems to have worked.

My thoughts exactly. Also it seems obvious that during the investigation they could not connect the body to the section of the cemetary she was found in. Looks like she was just left there.

Is her ring considered a birth stone ring? If so, what month is represented by the color of the ring?
If cemetery is relatively small, I would cross reference people buried there who could have had a daughter born 60 years prior to the Lady being found. Perhaps her parents were buried near by?
Is the cemetery on the route of public transportation? Cab or bus? Were drivers contacted?

I suspect that this website, thedoenetwork dot com is a fake website for shameless paid to click advertising.

The owner of the domain, is a known cyber squatter of domain names. Source: http://www.conklelaw.com/tag/dvlpmnt-marketing

Lately, I have seen more and more compromised websites that FU links out to. Be careful about what you click, there are so many sploits out there. But of course this is FU and sharing is caring.

Malware kits have started taking a turn for the worse, cryptowall with dropping child porn. And no PC Matic won't keep you from getting infected.

Regarding the autopsy some say there wasn't but they examined her body but others say there was as it's law in Virginia to conduct an autopsy after suicide, and that's how they knew about the valium in her system.

I too thought maybe she had a relation to one of the graves but maybe she just chose the spot because it was quiet and out the way so no one would see/stop her? I don't know because I haven't seen pictures of the site,

Someone else pointed out that maybe she took the christmas tree from one of the children's graves rather than carrying it herself (in regards to people id'ing her holding a tree)

Also thinking about the method of dying, if she was going to drink loads of alcohol and take pills why didn't she just decide to commit suicide by overdose? Unless the bag measure was to make certain she would die whereas overdose can be less certain I suppose...but then if she was going to drink enough and take enough valium to be able to get through the suffocation more easily/peacefully would she have been in a fit enough state to tape it around herself? By the time she'd finished putting it on and fastening etc it wouldn't have been that much longer til the air ran out, i.e not enough time probably to fall asleep peacefully

Maybe her husband died recently, she had no other family and either decided to drift a bit, didn't really care about herself anymore, maybe started involving herself in reckless behaviour and met the wrong person/people and ended up there

I'm also wondering whether her body was checked for any other DNA or if the two empty bottles were? I assume it would be standard procedure but who knows, I don't know anything about the police force there.

I was also again thinking of the method of death and I wonder how long it would take to suffocate? Whether there would have been time for her to fall asleep, or whether with that level of alc and valium in her blood she'd still be awake/able to tie a bag around her head. And surely even if you're desperate to kill yourself out of human instinct if you are still awake when suffocating you'd try your hardest to get the bag off your head even if it was taped?

this is simple. the police report says she called herself a redneck and killed herself while at the same time asking the public what happend. which is absurd.

so one has to assume she was killed for money and the coroner was paid to ignore it

That cemetery (Pleasant Valley Memorial) appears to be located across the street (236) from NVCC. It's sort of an odd spot for an out of towner to wander into. If she lived in town where did she come from? Where did she have access to a type writer to write that note? She was wearing jewelry and clothes from Nordstrom's so it seems unlikely that she was at a shelter. She had prescription eyeglasses and apparently valium in her system. So she had at some point been receiving medical care. She also had a c-section so she had at least one child (is it possible that her husband or a child that she was visiting died at Fairfax Hospital around the time of her suicide and she somehow managed to make it to that cemetery?) Also what to make of all of those recordings. It seems as though she must have lived somewhere close to that cemetery or she came in on a bus to NVCC (I assume that buses ran to that campus in '96). This is one of those that you would have thought would have been easily solved. Weird.

It's not a high profile case, with SWAT involved, and there was no opportunity to shoot someone, so no doubt it didn't get the attention it deserved...

It didn't get much attention. I live next door to the place (since 1985) and only recently learned about it.

You don't really know that. Suppose she lived somewhere else and came here (or was brought here) for reasons we don't know. Whoever knows her only knows she disappeared, and 25 years ago there were no "who is this?" web sites. Suppose your body was found without ID in, say, Boise or Albuquerque. Would your friends and relatives be looking for you there?

the height and weight are good and the looks.. and even this womans birthday is Dec 19th ..which is ironic to the jane does death date.. the only thing is ..the age..the missing woman would have been 40 instead of the 50-70 age they are saying

Some people on another website have located a missing person's report for a woman named Dona Lee Thomson from Port Austin, Michigan.

https://www.findthemissing.org/cases/9795/10

http://usa.51xrw.com/index.php?ctrl=show_news_detail&id=51&birthday=&province=Unknown%20Lost&lost_type=Missing%20Relatives/Friends%20&loster=Dona%20Lee%20Thompson_51

She was a worker at a nursing home in Michigan and she went missing in April of 96. She could have been terminally ill cause the way she killed herself is right out of a book about assisted suicide, with the alcohol and pills and bag over the head. Plus she was around a lot of older people at the nursing home so she knew all about dying. She could have had some money to live off for a few months and just wandered around the country until she finally decided to kill herself.

She looks a helluva lot like this Jane Doe, same height and build. Same hair and even the same glasses. Being a nursing home worker that would explain how she knew so much about the coroner and cremation cost and she had a DNR braclet on too.

The odd thing is she almost certainly walked into that cemetery. Where did she walk in from? It's not like she took a bus from New Mexico and got dropped off at that cemetary...

Is there a woman's shelter nearby? Something attracted her to that area.

That cemetery is across the street from NVCC and less than 3 miles from Fairfax Hospital (I think there is a mental health facility on Woodbine too).

She came from somewhere. Maybe she had a relative (child?) pass away at the hospital. Maybe she had mental health issues and was brought to the hospital but refused to be admitted? Maybe she attended an event or class at NVCC?

Has she been identified yet?

Has her DNA been matched with any ancestry sites?

oddly enough, this cemetery is located right across the street for the ME office. Strange that is never mentioned.
