Motion Sensors

Is there anything I can do about a neighbor who has 3 motion sensors on the side of their house that are permanently on all night and glare into my window even though I have blinds and curtains?

TALK TO YOUR NEIGHBOR! Explain to him that the lights are shining directly into your bedroom. Ask him if he could fix the motion sensor so that it isn't going on constantly, and if he could re-aim the lights so they don't shine directly into your bedroom.

I know lots of people have a phobia about discussing issues between neighbors, but that's how you avoid things escalating unnecessarily.

And if he refuses, then it's escalating necessarily. Check your HOA rules. I bet he's in violation.

Might as well be an HOA nazi against a dick who most likely wouldn't hesitate to use the HOA rules against you if he had a stick up his ass. At least you attempted to resolve it one-on-one like a decent person.

The above two suggestions are both equally good, but don't try the former after you've done the latter. You'll get busted, easy.

So, you wouldn't by any chance have any other current problems with your neighbor, would you? The reason I mention this is because three motion sensor lights seems to be an excessive amount to have installed, especially if they appear to be brightening up the side of the property where you are located. A friend of mine had a neighbor, who made it a habit to park his car on the street, about 2 feet away from the edge of my friend's driveway, despite the fact he could have parked it in his own driveway.

My friend suspected it was deliberate, mainly because he keeps his car in the garage, and never on the street.

He probably hates you. What did you do to piss him off?

A friend of mine grew tired of fighting with his neighbor over virtually everything
and had one of these installed. (a 12 footer)

As long as the neighbor isn't Samuel L. Jackson you should be ok!

9 times out of 10, it's because a lot of people are born without the empathic gene or something.

The guy probably never considers how his actions impact others. He probably even sees the side of the OP's house lit up and it still doesn't occur to him that it might be a problem.

For some reason, this area seems to attract more than its fair share of these types of people. Maybe the rest of the country kicks them out, so they all eventually drift here?

Isn't that speh - shel. Thurston sees the other point of view.

In reality, the dude hates his neighbor and knows exactly what he is doing.

Has anyone seen the fluorescent orange pig on Marshall Road in Vienna? Now THAT'S a great statement! I'm considering getting one of those yard art wood cutouts of a kid peeing to stick by my neighbor's yard.

Yeah, I terrorize my neighbors.

Since I'm a sound sleeper, I have my 1,000 watt sound system programmed to blast heavy metal at 3 am. And I have 100,000 candle power spotlights focused into every one of my neighbor's bedroom windows. They go on at 11pm, and shut off at 6 am.

Now you are the dick. So what is your excuse? At least I own up to being the neighborhood prick.

Huh??

I teased you for being level-headed and assuming the best of this guy's neighbor. Then I said the guy's neighbor is shining the light on his house on purpose because he hates him. I never said anything about YOU and your neighborly-ness or lack thereof.

Okay, I misread your comment based on the sarcastic tone of the first sentence.

My bad.

All is good. I just wanted to clarify that my barb at you was simple teasing for taking the high road. If we all were that well socialized!

I, on the other hand, do hate my neighbor and would gladly put annoying lights up to bug him if it weren't such a pain to do. A fluorescent pig or ugly yard art cutouts are much easier, but have the negative effect of bugging neighbors I actually like (and I like most of them). Carefully aimed lights (you know, not directly at the windows (too obvious), but close enough to do the job) are a great option (if you have the means).
