Does anyone know what happened in the Accident on Rolling Road? My neighbor just came home and stated that Rolling is a mess.

Friday night.

The OP wasn't very clear about that.

It probably happened recently, though.

Yeah, i saw the accident. It was last night at 8 o clock. we were 2 cars back at a red light. This young girl was trying to make a left turn while the motorcyle was coming from hillside onto forrester(by cardinal forest elm school). she hit him from the front and he flew to the corner of the intersection. he was lying unconcious and they tried cpr but he just died right there like 5 feet in front of me. Then they took the girl somewhere and they started an investigation for a few hours. Craziest thing i have ever seen in springfield.

FIRST OF ALL..

THE DEEPEST OF CONDOLENCES ARE GIVEN TO THE FRIENDS AND FAMILY OF THIS YOUNG MAN.

this young man just lost his life, as a result of a negligent drive.

that is horrible.

someone needs to raise awareness of the other vehicles on the road. the damage that was done on this accident, and the loss of a valued person's life, can never be replaced.

the speed limit on rolling is 45 mph, and 30 on forrester and hillside. there is no reason, if the driver was going the speed limit, and driving responsibly, that a person should loose their life.

the damage that was done to the motorcycle is excessive for the posted speed limit. you cannot replace a life.

deepest condolences.

I didn't see the accident happen, but I saw the aftermath, coming down Rolling Road in the other direction. The motorcyclist was still lying in the road.

How can anyone assume he was at fault? I thought someone driving in a straight line had the right of way over someone turning. I could be wrong, but I think it's way too early to be placing blame.

People going straight have the right of way over people making left turns. The girl driving the SUV is at fault for the accident and will have to live with what she did for the rest of her life...

Let me clear this up a bit. From my understanding the girl that was driving the SUV, was totally at fault. From what people have been telling me, the front of the SUV took impact as well as the front of the motorcycle. He was going straight and the girl turned in front of him. She was a young and possibly inexperienced driver. He was a great rider and very safety conscious. He did NOT drink or do drugs.

My condolensces to his family. You are missed.

I met the driver of the motorcylce a few times and he was a great person. He had a lot going for himself and he will be missed by many. This tragedy could have been easily avoided and will now impact the lives of many. To his family and friends, my condolences. BJ, Nicole, I'm here to help you get through this. God has a new Angel. Riding with him brings back good memories. From my experiences with him, he was a great rider and very aware of others in a group. People need to pay attention when they drive! When I heard about the accident, calls were sent out till we knew… But nothing can change the fact that he was a beautiful person.

My condolences’ to his loved ones. You are missed.

from everyone saying it was an SUV, it was not. Man i saw it happen, it was a for taurus or a chevy malibu. one of those little sedans. Both her airbags were popped out. she was at fault because He was riding his motorcyle going straight on Rolling and she was making a left onto forrester and tried to cross before he arrived. I can't believe the cops didn't give her a sobriety test.

Negative. He was going at least twice the speed limit when the accident happened. When you are speeding you loose your right of way. Hence the sedan that turned was not at fault. Hence she was not charged

I arrived on the scene not long after it happened how tragic. They were just beginning to close the road. I looked to my left and saw the young man, who had obviously expired. It was just very tragic. His helmet was off so it was my assumption that someone had tried to perform CPR. I feel very sorry for all of those involved. A life was lost and this young girl will have to live with the consequences of her actions. Statics show that most fatalities occur in motorcycle accidents when vehicles make left turns in front of them. This is something for motorist to think about. Vehicles travel faster than the eye so it's good to wait those few minutes to allow any vehicle to pass. My condolences go to this young man's family.

Oh really? You lose your right of way? And you can determine exactly how fast someone is going, visually, quickly enough to decide that you have the right to pull out in front of him?

That doesn't make any fucking sense.

I would most certainly expect that the driver of the car/SUV was cited for some driving infraction, and was thus, at fault.

It's good to wait those few SECONDS. Not minutes.

Had the chick been paying attention, and waited 5 or 10 seconds, the kid would still be alive.

But she had just gotten this really important text message from her BFF, and she had to reply right at that moment.

We arrived at the scene some time after the accident happened. It looked like the car was probably turning left onto Forrester from Rolling. It was NOT an SUV but a smaller sedan -- corolla or similar. The car was stopped on Forrester. The motorcylce was still in the intersection, on Rolling but near the median strip for Forrester

It appeared the motorcyclist had been thrown quite a distance from the bike -- Forrester is two lanes in each direction at that point and the body was lying just on the other side of the intersertion (i.e. across two lanes). An older woman who was one of the first people on the scene said she came out of her home because she heard the girl who was driving the car screaming and screaming.

From what I could see the driver looked young -- probably a high school student, so likely an inexperienced driver.

It is a tragedy for all involved. This young woman will live with the horror and guilt forever. The young man lost his life and his family will never be the same. I always tell my kids, a motorcyclist can be the most careful person on the road, but often drivers just don't see them.

It also be more interesting if we knew the distance the guy flew. Motorcycle accidents are more exciting with the rider being thrown a long distance.

Well, there is an Ever Valsquez in the ticket search.

Two tickets, nothing really major. Revoked/Suspended license and expired county sticker. Big deal.

We just need to find out the name of the girl that killed him. Chances are she's too young to have much of a record. This will be her first offense, I'm sure.

If you're doing 90 on a motorcycle on public roads, you should be expecting this sort of shit.

First of all, if you don't already know that something like 30% of drivers DO NOT EVEN SEE motorcycles, you really shouldn't be riding a bike. You shouldn't get on a bike without proper training. A good motorcycle driver's ed should have taught you that one basic rule.

Second of all, it doesn't matter who's at fault when you're on a bike. You're the one who is going to die or end up in a nursing home.

RIP EVER VELSQUEZ. He was a really good friend and very nice person. Whenever he met a rider, he would always tell the rider to ride safe out there. He owned a Ninja Kawasaki 250; and when i asked why he didnt get a 600, he would say "man i dont wana kill myself." He was a very safe rider; still hard to believe how this could have happened.

Ever was the type of person who would go out of his way to help people; a very giving person. Once, on a hot summer day, Ever saw a bunch of firefighters raising money for a cause at red lights right across from where we worked. Ever walked across to them and handed each one of them a bottle of cold water; that was Ever.

Man you will always be remembered...and i will never ride again. RIP

Just wanted to answer some questions I have seen here:

The car involved in this accident was a Toyota Avalon, off-white in color.
The accident occured Friday night Sept. 18, 2009 at about 8-9pm.
It was at the intersection of Rolling Rd. and Forrester Blvd./Hillside Rd.

This was a horrible accident.
One thing that is disturbing to me:
The damage to the car was on the front end.
How did the motorcycle end up behind her car?

My husband and I came upon the accident once the police were investigating. What a tragic night. To all those who lost a dear friend and family member, my deepest condolences and you are in my prayers.

As for posters "eesh" and "FFU Poster" I am absolutely DISGUSTED by your comments referring to the young man who lost his life as "worm food" and that "motorcycle accidents are more exciting with the rider being thrown a long distance".

You should be ashamed of yourselves! I assume you are both young, immature, waste your life behind a computer screen and are completely out of touch with reality and human life!

Grow up and have some compasion for the people in your community & those that will have to live in grief over this tragic accident.

I have a buddy who makes prosthetic devices....mostly wooden legs. The bastard can't wait for Spring every year because motorsickle wreck survivors provide like 80% of his business. He hates to hear about the fatalities...that's money lost!

He says without motorsickles, he'd be out of business. (My vet says the same thing about fleas, lol)

JMBird, You are absolutely right. This discussion exemplifies the worst that online commentary has to offer. I think, though, that we can still be confident that Captain Worm Bait and Friends are still in the minority.

This is a sad time for all concerned.

There seems to be an impromptu memorial service going on at the corner of Rolling and Forester. It is very, very sad for both his family and the young girl who killed him.

STOP RIDING! NOW!

Stupid inattentive high school girls texting their BFF will KILL YOU!

It's not just the high school chicks. The fact that you are riding around on two wheels with no steel around you to protect you when the inevitable happens is why people die on motorcycles, or end up paraplegics or worse, living in nursing homes.

The motorcycle guy had the right of way, but he was speeding at least 10MPH over speed limit and it wasn't an SUV --it was a Toyota car. Unfortunately he was driving a black motorcycle and wearing all black --I don't think she saw him coming, but I wish she had.

My thoughts and prayers go to his family and her and her family. Imagine how life changing that would be to hit someone and they died.

Vehicles travel faster than the eye so it's good to wait those few minutes to allow any vehicle to pass. by the name that he has, the Hispanic?

My condolensces to his family. You are missed.

Fatal Motorcycle Crash
West Springfield Police District – Police were called to the area of Rolling Road and Hillside Road for a fatal traffic crash that occurred on Friday, September 18. An investigation determined around 7:57 p.m., a Toyota Avalon was headed southbound on Rolling Road. The driver, a 20-year-old woman, was making a left turn onto Forrester Boulevard when a motorcyclist, headed northbound on Rolling Road, struck her car. The motorcyclist was ejected from his 2007 Kawasaki ZX-6R and landed on the pavement nearby. Ever Misael Velasquez-Canales, 22, of 9318 Kite Street in Burke, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota, a 20-year-old woman, was not injured.

Crash Reconstruction detectives continue to investigate. This is the 22nd fatal crash this year in Fairfax County. Last year at this time, there were 15 fatal crashes.

So that's what they pieced together...

I was on my way home from a friend's house when I drove through to the scene. I'm a volunteer EMT, so I stopped and tried to give aid and help out Fairfax Fire Rescue when they arrived, but he was neither breathing nor had a pulse when we got to him. Without a pulse and not knowing how long it stopped, there's not much we can do....even if we did get his heart pumping again, judging by the facts that he was hit was hard enough that the helmet was ejected off of him then him having his head hit the pavement along with how long he was not breathing and pulseless, he wouldn't have been the same person if he ever did wake up.

Heh...and strangely, it wasn't the fact that I saw enough blood that it reached the nearest storm drain that was about 7-8 feet away that disturbed me, but it was the other driver's wails as she was crying...

Condolences to both families and I'm sorry we couldn't do anymore to help him.

I was there at the time of the accident. We had to swirve right to avoid running into the intersection.

When we saw it was a motorcycle, I had to run out with my daughter to see if it was my husband, who was riding that night.

I still see those horrific images reply in my mind as well as hear the impact and smell the car smoke. It seemed that Ever died on impact and did not suffer. My daughter and I prayed for him immediately.

I cried for two days for Ever, his family, friends and the person who hit him. She was screaming and crying hysterically. She needs our prayers as well. I have never witnessed something like this before and hope I never do again. The next morning, I brought a bouquet of flowers to the scene and said a prayer.

Please be careful out there - motorcycles are everywhere.

God Bless to his family and friends!

I didn't see the accident but know that corner well since I live nearby. A driver on Rolling Road heading south and attempting to make a left onto Forrester can legally do so (from a left turn lane) only when the traffic light displays a left turn arrow. When the left turn light turns green, the driver making the left has the right of way. Anyone traveling north on Rolling at that time, as the cyclist was according to the police report, should have encountered a red light. It's likely that the young woman driver believed she had the left turn light when she made her turn. So the question of fault depends on what the traffic lights were actually showing at the time.

Two peoples lives were forever changed in a flash. I'm sure this young lady lives in the area and will have endure the pain of crossing that intersection every day. She'll see the memorial and it will remind her of what she has done. Seconds changed everything. One minute your going home and the next you watching a man lay dead on the street and you're the reason he's dead. It was a mistake but unfortunately fatal. He's gone and she will have to live with the pain of what she has done. Hopefully she won't turn to drugs or alcohol. Based on the good things that his friends have said about him, it's my assumption that he would have forgiven her. God Bless all involved.

My husband is wrong in the last post. Yes, there is a left turn light that gives right of way... but after it switches off and the Rolling Rd light is still green for straight thru traffic, you can still make a left but ONLY when it's safe. The left-turn driver has to yield the right of way. So the girl may have thought it was safe and simply not seen the motorcyclist, who had the right of way.

Our condolences to both the Velasquez family and the girl driving. What a tragic occurrence.

She could have also tried to beat the light as it changed from yellow to red.

The way some people drive, really slow, she might have pulled into the intersection as Ever had approached a green and gunned it up to the speed limit, and she was still in the intersection.

This happens all the time, especially when someone ignores the yellow, but still drives slowly and cautiously through the left turn. They can still be in the intersection, and if a car (or bike) was approaching the red light and knew it was turning green, they can enter the intersection at or near full speed, and BAM, the slow cautious driver who ignores yellow lights just caused an accident.

I was going home turning into Hillside around 9:45PM. The deceased body was covered with a blanket the helmet off. I saw the bike lying on its side near the middle of the intersection and the driver of the Toyota parked on Hillside. There was a photographer taking the deceases picture.

I was with my wife and kids and shock is what we felt, I can just imagine what his family and friends went through when they heard the news.

I didn't know 'Ever' but I am a very sad for him. I hope that his family finds the strength to carry on. I hope the girl well also.

Just a public service announcement for all concerned, whether you are making jokes about the original poster's comment, or you are trying to memorialize Ever.

This is not the Ever Velazquez Online Memorial. This is Fairfax Underground. Post your "he was a great guy" comments here with the fair warning that it will be ridiculed and deconstructed for weeks and months.

Go establish a site for him. The dude didn't deserve to die. He will only be ridiculed here, and everything you post here about how he was a decent guy, no matter how right it might be, will be picked apart because this is not a memorial site, it is a site where people rib each other, make fun of each other, attack each other, and have fun trying to be an asshole or jerk, all in good fun.

STOP USING THIS SITE AS EVER'S MEMORIAL! This is not the place for it.

I was going North on Rolling right after the accident happened. I did not witness the accident but I came through the intersection right after it happened. I saw the bike on my right and the helmet on the left. I stopped my car just pass the scene and came up to the victim and immeditately called 911. A man and a woman were right at the body checking his pulse and said there was a pulse. We could not move him in the case of a neck injury. But the look of the accident to me the young girl was making a left on to Forrester from Rolling and didn't see the motorcycle coming North on Rolling. My condolences to everyone involved.

I saw what happened and he/motorcyclist/Ever wasn't doing 90mph, but he was speeding maybe 10mph over speed limit. I don't believe the car driver ever saw him. It was a dark intersection and his motorcycle was black and he was wearing all black except for his helmet. I didn't know him, but I think of him & his family often. I hope his family & friends know God and can find some peace. I'm sorry u died so young.

Actually, it was silver. I live and work right off of Rolling Road and saw the bike; the officers had actually stood it back up. It suprisingly didn't even look that mangled, considering the circumstances.
