Have an antique Queen size sleigh bed need to sell
Posted by: Sweet Dreams ()
Date: January 06, 2017 07:04PM

Anybody know of any reputable stores in the NOVA area that can handle high end antique furniture sales on consignment?

This is an expensive piece and is going to be priced rather high based on my research. Please don't recommend FaceBook yard sales pages. Most of those are populated by cheapskates and scammers and people who just like to browse but never buy.

I inherited this bed from my grandmother and we really have no need for it and no space to put it. It is a gorgeous bed but hell I sleep on a king bed and box spring with no frame at all. I just like it like that.

I guess a high end antique store is what Im looking for?

Here is a few pictures of the fine detail. I forgot to add, Ive been told it is less than 100 years old because there were no Queen sized beds made 100 years ago. I dont know if this is true but it came from a reliable source.

I know nobody here will buy this but its just a shot in the dark if someone knows of a good place to talk with.

Got a name and number? I would like to email them the pictures to gauge any interest before I drag the beast up there. It's NOT light!

I recommend you try selling it yourself first on Craigslist. Be reasonable in your pricing. Milennials don't want antiques except mid-century modern. While it may worth say $1000, I'd list it for $500 and you might have some luck. It's not solid wood and they buyer might have to reupholster it - so honestly, I'd say you'd be lucky to get $300-$500. It's a very pretty bed, but it's not the going thing right now. Good luck.

It may not be solid wood but that is some fine old school craftsmanship. You don't get a piece like that at Sears or Ashleys Outlet. All that wood carving is by hand and the upholstery and riveting is 1st class to be that old and not haven fallen apart.

I know nothing about antiques but that looks like art, not a piece of furniture.

Are you drunk? Reupholster? You won't find anyone outside of the fine English furniture houses of the 1800s that can do upholster like that. I promise you, you couldn't pull out those brass rivets with a crowbar!

I wish the OP had stated who the manufacturer is.

A stupid XBox playing milennial would not be a prospective buyer for this bed. Way too classy and worth too much. Milennials usually sleep in sleeping bags on the couch in the basement.

The buy for this would be a refined wealthy person like out in Middleburg or Orange County and Charlottesville.

LOL, you would be lucky if someone gave you $100 + the effort of taking it out of your house.

That piece of shit would not fit in well in my upscale modern contemporary mansion.

You should find a retirement community, and have a yard sale, you might get $250.

No, Ashley Furniture is for you. It's a shame Marlo went out of business. Furnish you entire McMansion for around $700.

You sir are either a troll or a complete retard that knows nothing about furniture quality. That is a hand carved piece, I suspect that has a minimum value of $1500 to $2000. More to a collector. It would be nice to know where it came from and other background info because that could very well determine an even higher value. You cant find furniture like that these days.

Now obviously, in NOVA where most people live in plastic houses with plastic and particle board furnishings, there is no market for something like this.

I suggest the OP get in touch with Sothebys if he wants an accurate evaluation on this bed. Personally, I think it's gorgeous and if I was in the market for something like this I would definitely be interested.

good luck beds are notoriously hard to sell. They take up space in shops and dont show well. Ive had an antique worth 800 bucks for a decade. Ultimately I will admit the truth and sell it for $50 on CL

Porch monkeys dont pay a lot for furniture because it usually gets destroyed in the next domestic violence incident. Particle Board is also easy to pick and throw.

There are places in this area where you can take high end antiques, they will price them for top dollar, and they might be able to sell them. It does not matter if the item is "worth $1500-2000" and shows excellent craftsmanship if the shop isn't likely to attract someone who is willing to pay that kind of money for it. The more likely result is the item will sit around for months at which point they will be sold for a fraction of the original price. I know this because that's how I buy antiques.

If you are serious about trying to sell the bed for top dollar I would suggest looking into auction houses or regional high end antique operations that regularly sell items of the same era as the bed. No matter who sells the bed for you, they will take a significant portion of the sales price in fees, expenses and commissions. Even if the item sells for $1500, what you will end up with will be significantly less.

Haha....lots of interesting commentary from uninformed trolls which is exactly what I expected, but hey it was worth the entertainment value.

I wasn't seeking individual opinions. I asked about location/names of antique dealers in the area. Please learn how to read FU trolls.

And as far as a dealer taking a commission, I have no problem with that. Anything left over is profit for me since I have no investment in this bed. I just need it out of my house with minimal disruption to my life.

Is there a manufactures name or date anywhere? Why do you think it is an antique? Your Grandma might have bought it at a department store in the 1970s. I see this all the time with pianos. People think that old piano in Grandma's house must be valuable but the truth is that there is no demand for most used pianos and you literally cannot give them away for free.

I have been searching for a name or anything identifiable but so far no luck. I need to get down on my hands and knees and go over every inch I guess.

I sent pictures to an antique dealer my sister knows in Purcellville VA and he is the one who said it was a very old handmade piece but furniture apparently has to be 100 yrs old to be antique and he told me queen size beds were not made 100 years ago, hence his opinion is its not antique. Maybe it's 99 years old who knows. He has no room to set it up and try to sell it at his place.

I just want someone who can give an accurate value and get rid of it fairly.

Once you post a topic you lose ownership of it, and it takes on a life of its own. Just because you want people to provide you with names of antique dealers to sell the item for you does not make it inappropriate for others to post responses questioning your marketing strategy, or even the value of your piece.

A friend of mine recently sold a large and valuable collection of antique furniture through Potomack Company Auctions & Appraisals in Alexandria. She was satisfied with the service overall, but there were some items that she felt went for too little. This is of course one of the risks of selling items through an auction house. They did liquidate the entire collection though in a relatively short period of time. I believe they also do estate sales. Their website is http://www.potomackcompany.com/

Are you trying to make some obscure halfwit point? Mommy is happy because she doesn't to deal with disposing of all this stuff. My mom is 74 yrs old herself and she doesnt need that headache. I have literally been dealing with this for over a year. A lot has been sold, a lot given away, some thrown away. Down to about a dozen items which are proving to be the toughest to get rid of.

Now you want to display some more of your "humor"? Think hard.

It's actually an antique Buick Century, if any one is interested. Buick used to be a more luxurious line than Cadillac.

Before anyone purchases used furniture be careful about the bedbug issue, and other pests that can invade your home. This is a major concern if the furniture has not been properly sanitized.

Assisted living facility rooms don't look like that. That shitty, old bed is in your shitty, tiny house.

Weschler's sells anything, it doesn't have to be a high end antique. They have weekly "Metro" auctions and about 5 times a year "Capital Collections" auctions for the nicest stuff. Give them a call.

You are the OP, because this is the second post where someone refers to the OP as a "he," even though the gender of the OP was never mentioned. Listen here, momma's boy, we know it's you; you don't want to be ridiculed any further, so you are no longer posting as "Sweet Dreams" and are pretending to be another person...and you call us psycho.

Sorry shit for brains. Still here watching. And do you really think the OP writes like a female poster? Deductive reasoning is your friend. God gave you a brain, try using it.

And believe me, ridicule from a bunch of basement dwelling retards is something easily ignored.

OP, list of consignment shops in the area, some do furniture

Of course, check the Google, Yelp, and like reviews in the one or ones you are considering.

So you think that wood working was done by a machine?

Looks like granny kept a golf club beside the bed (4th picture left side of bed). Must have been to ward off the niggers that usually staff those facilities.

RIP Granny. I'm sure you're in a better place. It is a nice looking piece of furniture though.

I need to comment on the bed frame. I do know something about furniture, and I believe the wood details were machine created. The manufacturer bushed the area with a darker stain to create the illusion of age and patina.

You're a liar. Nobody that would know anything about furniture and antiques would not be on this forum. This is a losers and junkies forum.

That's because it's not grandma's room, but the OP's, who's too embarrassed to say it's his room, because everyone will know he's a cock loving faggots for owning that flamer's bed. Instead of having some balls and exist outside the closet by just admitting he's a gay man trying to sell his gay bed, he chooses to live in denial and concoct some imaginary tale of his grandmother dying, because he's ashamed of being gay and having such a small, shitty room.

No straight man would ever use "Sweet Dreams" as their screenname.

OP. your first mistake was bringing your question to this forum.

These responders here are mostly mouth breathers who can barely tie their shoes or wipe their own ass.

I would look for an antique furniture oriented discussion group maybe on Facebook.

You wont get any useful information from this bunch unless it involves crimes, drugs, or hookers.

Eww so that means their is shit all over the bed frame itself too.

I was interested in buying this price for $5k, but after hearing that I'll pass.

And yet here you are? And Facebook is the land of restraint and untainted opinions? Good lord man, get a grip.

Hahaha so true!

And don't forget incarceration. This place is a wealth of information about local, state, and federal jails and prisons.

That is NOT a machine made mass produced piece of furniture. Hand carved all the way. Whoever says it is, is an uneducated douche bag or just trolling.

Bob's Furniture sells that exact same bed for $149. It's machine-made in China. Stop trying to defraud people with this bullshit about it being antique!

The ignorance in this thread is epic, but quite indicative of the lower form of life mentality of FU.

That bed is mid 1950s. All that was being made in China then was noodles and dog food.....with real dogs!
