NPR hires Joshua Johnson, a gay black guy, to replace Diane Rehm
Posted by: Disappointing ()
Date: December 23, 2016 05:48PM

It was sad that NPR kept on Diane Rehm so long after she was barely able to talk any more. But now that she's finally quitting, we hoped for someone who would bring more diverse discussion to WAMU.

Instead, we get Joshua Johnson, whose guests tend to argue why no one is leftist enough for them.

If this is NPR's attempt to lower the median listening age from 65, they missed it big time.

She might as well have been gay and black.

I don't think that I ever heard her croak out anything that varied from absolute libtard dogma.

Trump can't pull NPR funding because NPR does not receive direct Federal funding. Approximately 10% of NPR's funding comes indirectly Federal sources in the form of grants and fees from entities that receive Federal funds. If Trump wants to screw over NPR he is going to have to screw up a number of other entities as well.

NPR has done itself a great disservice in the last couple of decades by allowing personal political bias to permeate the overall programing . It is very apparent in the news stories. While I have a strong affinity for freedom of speech, when public funds are heavily used, both sides of the political spectrum need to be represented. I like much of NPR, but haven't contributed in a long time due to a lack of restraint in thus regard. A large chunk of their funding is through the federally funded public broadcasting system. They claim to be intelligent. They should exercise that assertion.

Somewhere between 25% and 35% comes from corporate sponsors and donors. While NPR claims the donors do not influence programming, no one actually believes that.

If these donors start pulling out, NPR will change. Until then, not so much.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) is an American non-profit corporation created by an act of the United States Congress and funded by the United States federal government to promote and help support public broadcasting.

CPB’s mission is to ensure universal access to non-commercial, high-quality content and telecommunications services. It does so by distributing more than 70% of its funding to more than 1,400 locally owned public radio and television stations.

FUNDED BY THE UNITED STATES FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

The CPB's annual budget is composed almost entirely of an annual appropriation from Congress plus interest on those funds. Ninety-five percent (95%) of CPB's appropriation goes directly to content development, community services, and other local station and system needs.

Cokie Roberts receives significant federal dollars as an NPR "Journalist".

Actually, Cokie Roberts is a Democrat Party Agitator.

Cokie Roberts is on NPR and actually announced several months ago that it is her prerogative to advocate against Donald Trump while being paid by the federal government.

It's her right, she proclaimed.

Yes, NPR should be de-funded, and I hope that Trump will do it, with the help of the Republican Senate and House of Representatives.

Democrats can curl up in a fetal position in the corner.

By the way, all the money going to WPFW should be DRAINED as well. I'm tired of hearing on so-called "Public" airways that "White men are evil, and they should all die." You race hustlers in the DEMOCRAT Party are disgusting.

TRUMP. TRUMP. TRUMP.

NPR isn't CPB dumbass. CPB is a government controlled and funded corporation. NPR is an independent largely privately funded entity whose membership is made up of public radio stations.

NPR gets Federal Tax Money from CPB, dumbass. CPB is a government
controlled and 100% tax-funded corporation. NPR is a dependent whore
somewhat privately funded entity whose membership is made up of public radio stations and receives tax money from CPB.

I like NPR. But they do seem to lack intelligent voices from the right. And that's speaking as a liberal. They do seem to stack the deck on any given program. And if they do pull in commentary from the right, it's usually someone fairly dogmatic or half-educated. It does seem at times like they really don't want to engage the debate, but rather dictate the terms of discourse. Defining the perameyersof "truth" is always going to create an ideological bubble.

Adding 1A and Joshua Johnson is a breath of fresh air much needed after so many years of the Diana Rehm Show I do not however understand why NPR found it necessary to Identify Mr. Johnson as a gay black guy when Diane Rehm was never referred to as a straight white woman?

I learn so much from 1A. For instance the young woman today who wrote a report for her class on Terrorism, about how white nationalists/supremacists have committed more hate crimes and been responsible for more murder and mayhem than all the Jihadists put together. Reading this site (accidentally) makes me understand why. I can't imagine your white Christian God condones this kind of divel!

...That's exactly why we don't need to import more crazies!

Honestly, the idiocy of people who make statements like yours is breathtaking.
