My child is in mid-elementary school Based on the progress reports and other writings we've received from th teacher, the teacher does not know the basics of writing -- run-on sentences and fragments, commas in arbitrary places, pronouns with no antecedents. Essentially, many of the things my child is supposed to be learning. How can she teach a skill that she doesn't have herself? What can I do?

Child has an IEP, Which means teacher sends progress reports.

We had a math teacher that could not do math to save her life.
Got so tired of correcting her homework that we switched teachers. Something that never happens mid-year, but we forced the principals hand.

All students receive a Progress Report (aka report card) at the end of each quarter.

This is ridiculous. Teachers love to whine and complain about how they are overworked and underpaid and want to be paid as the professionals they purport to be.

Truly, some of the most vapid and stupid people I can think of are teachers. I once asked my SIL, a special ed teacher, to tell me a bit about her graduate studies. You'd have thought I'd asked her to explain quantum physics. She could not adequately express herself and this was just idle chitchat in a relaxed setting. Lots of um, yeah, so like, in graduate school, I had to like, research and stuff and talk um to my professors and like write up a paper about um, yeah, it something about like learning styles?

Does the teacher write like this in with run on sentences and no punctuation much less paragraphs do you get a wall of text from this teacher?

I was called a snob when I returned my second graders spelling test guide to his teacher with a cc to principal. Teacher had numerous misspellings on the master list.

Here's the thing: I'm a recruiter and I toss out resumes and cover letters (or now hit delete) when it's clear that the writer doesn't have basic writing, grammar and/or usage skills. I'm hiring college graduates, but the way.

Email some of the teacher's writings to acting superintendent Steve Lockard: salockard@fcps.edu and demand that something be done.

I recall an article from years ago where the reporter was interviewing a teacher on the picket line, and when the teacher was asked which subject she taught, she answered "I teaches English."

I was at an elementary school PTA meeting many years ago, first one of the year. So, each teacher was asked to stand up and give his/her name and what grade or subject he/she taught. I swear this is the truth, a female teacher stood up, gave her name and said "I be the readin' teacher."
