Wegman's christmas decorations?
Posted by: wegmans luver ()

Years back Wegmans used to have a ton of christmas decorations in store, but in the past few years its gotten sparser and sparser. Any idea what is up with that?

When I was in a day or two back they hadn't put up any at all other than what was for sale in the seasonal section.

We're based in WNY. Trump country...white country...Christian country...honest work country...no diversity and we're proud of it.

When we broke into the DC market back in the mid-2000's with our store out in Sterling, we used to do Christmas up really big. But, in order to make us more competitive here in DC, we have to adjust our presentation to make us more attractive to a more diverse customer base. There's not enough Christians who enjoy big Christmas displays here in DC to support our business...

I think you underestimate the amount of people who love Christmas here in the DC area. You've obviously been listening to the local media or the local democrats or both. As of November 9th, I believe you will find that the grinch was overstating his position. Bring on the festivities. Merry Christmas.

That's a shame, I would love my kids to see the displays of old.

Our sales really fell off in 2007 and 2008. Once we cut back the Christmas displays in our NOVA stores...sales increased beyond pre-2007 and racial statistics pulled from our imaging/facial identification software on our security cameras revealed a far more diverse customer base and an overall increase in the number of customers served. Corporate is not real happy about it because they like the Christmas displays but, there's no arguing with the revenue. Plus, there's a bump on the top line of the balance sheet because the VA stores don't have to absorb the expense of the displays nor the extensive labor installing/dismantling/storing them nor the workman's comp claims related to this work.

Perhaps when Trump's immigration policies are implemented, our stores can return to operating normally...

I believe the correct grammar is “more and more sparse”. It just sounds righter.

Another store in the area selling groceries, Walmart, has no problem celebrating Christmas. Chantilly Expo Center Walmart, dancing Santa human sized singing Christmas songs at store entrance and checkout cashiers all wearing Santa caps. Fair Lakes Walmart, Monday night, Salvation army bell ringer outside store collecting (I gave) and also singing Christmas songs. (Sadly Target kicked out SA years ago, and the quality of their prepackaged 'fresh' meat and produce questionable when last visited them some time back). As a side note, my shopping in a Walmart store is less as order many grocery non-perishables from them online at their Website with free shipping if over $50 by Fedex mostly or UPS.

Wegmans is the only grocery store I have ever seen so many people get passionate about.

I am upset I applied for a job in the front end earlier this year and was not hired- because I am older than 30!

The HR person let it slip "in a roundabout way" she was afraid I would not fit their "culture" even though I have previous cashier experience at a different grocery store, and was paid more at said store for the same job.

I went back to the store in question a few weeks later- it was true, all the cashiers and people at the counters all looked under 30. I saw NO middle-aged people working unless they were supervisors.

So fuck wegmans, the food may be good but their hiring process SUCKS. I got GRILLED on the interview (see glassdoor.com if you don't believe me!) and they are quick to hire 18-25 year olds but will not hire anyone older than that for any customer-facing positions!!

Oh yeah, Jeff? Open up an "Amazon Go" grocery outside of Seattle...then you'll see some fucking passion. No check out lines? Are you kidding me? Do you know how much free time I'll have to grab pussy when that opens because I'm not standing in line at the grocery store?

Fair warning too: they WILL background check you and for part time they MAY drug test you (it's a swab) and if it is full time they HAIR TEST you.

SO if you smoked weed anytime in the past YEAR or are of any ethnicity with dark hair- you will probably not pass (or be hired in the first place because I saw few minorities there besides asians and indians from india).

The problem is when we've hired drug addicts they blaze up, come into work and cut their finger off on the deli slicer. Why would we hire someone who will cause us to pay workman's comp claims, be late for work if they show up at all and steal merchandise to support their habit? It's nothing personal against junkies, we're just trying to run a successful business here. Plus, our customer focus groups have shown that people don't want to buy food that was handled by drug addicts.

Concentrate on getting clean first...then you can think about coming to work for us.

I will give you that one-(although one can argue those on pain meds like oxy should NOT be working there as well) but what about not hiring anyone over 30-ish in front-facing positions?

Now THAT is fucked up. People of ALL ages come to shop and it looks bad if there is no one of their age to relate to while shopping, we all know young people have distaste for older people!

They've got chanukah balloons and zero xmas decorations this year, other than two tiny wreaths.

They even got rid of the cinnamon scented pinecones they normally sell. Is fairfax devoid of european culture?

Christians will have to give up their culture so as not to offend the invading jihadists that dems insist on aiding.

How is 31 any different than 29? 30 isnt middle aged or old. Im brazilian 30 yrs old and pass for 19. Never been called middle aged or asked my age before being hired by hr.

I like to go in there and pick at their pay-by-the-pound bar.

Here's a hint for you youngins with little money:
Get yourself a shopping cart, pretend you are shopping and put a couple of items in the cart, fill up a to go dish, eat as you go up and down the isles pretending to shop. When finished eating, go to the bathroom and leave your cart, when you come back out walk past the cart and leave the store. If you are stopped tell them something you ate in the store made you sick!

I don't think the one near government center had any decorations at all this year.

Made me very sad.
