Why are personnel constantly at Lifetime Fitness?
Lifetime is in Fairfax City, not in their
jurisdiction.

The engine needs to be parked 100yds
from the entrance, and the firemen are usually in the
back of Lifetime lifting weights.
Is response time not a consideration?

Is it part of the union contract that allows them to

Virginia is a right to work state. Therefor there are no collective bargaining contracts between employee groups and employers.

Maintaining physical fitness is a critical component to job performance and injury prevention (think $'s).

It's common knowledge that in order to maintain that level of fitness, daily physical training (PT) is require daily.

The exercise equipment at that fire station is piss poor. It does not meet the needs of the staff there.

Yes. The gym is technically in Fairfax city's jurisdiction. However, because fire stations are called via GPS determination of who the closest is. Therefor fire station 23 would be the primary station to respond to that address.

The distance between that gym and 23 is 1.4 miles away.

Other fire stations do similar things....
4 goes to a local cross fit gym and the red centers
9 goes to the racquetball gym down the road
13 goes to a local gym
17 goes to lifetime
19 goes to the golds across the street
21 goes to the gym in the Harris teeter shopping center
23 to lifetime
25 goes to reston'/ rec center
29 goes to that fancy gym in Tysons
30 goes to the golds on gallows
34 goes to the local middle school or rec center
38 goes to life time

Also, the fire department here provides top of the line services. I think they know how to run their operation, which includes letting stations hit local gyms.

But it got out of hand with women in the exercise room..The women could not take the radios with fire calls, or when they would hang in the hot tub with radios .. And It was making Limp Wristed Lib males look bad for real Heros to be there..so they had to go..It was paid for by the FD to the rec dept they said. So whos paying now.. Maybe even more.

They can go free after work to the Rec centers , so can the PD and Sheriffs...Let them do that, they don't need to be working out on duty or filling smelly boots roadside either

Going to the grocery store is Ok with me. There at the station or out on calls 24 hours.They can be out to the truck in seconds.

As a Conservative, I want a lean, efficient government.

And, that means, I want lean, efficient firefighters/EMTs.

I don't want someone who can't carry a heavy hose hundreds of feet. I don't wan't one who has difficulty climbing a ladder.

I like these guys running at the track, or working out in gyms. They all have their radios, and they are just as close to a random incident as they are when at the station.

So, thumbs up to working out and staying in the community.

(N.B. I don't like firefighters standing at intersections begging like the ever-increasing Gypsies that are in the area.)
