To be fair, when have Devin Thomas and Mike Sellers demonstrated that they are the "go to" guys for passes?

I'd imagine professional receivers and backs who ARENT names Moss and Portis would be expected to catch passes when they're open.

What the fuck does "go to" have anything to do with? LOL

You'd make a different point if Moss and Portis dropped those passes?

I understand you're angry, but don't lose your mind, FFS.

Oh Dear. Robert Henson, linebacker for the Skins is calling the fans "dim-witted" for booing the team last sunday on his now removed Twitter page.

What a jerkoff. Note to Henson: NFL stands for Not For Long.

Way to make a name for yourself. Hope he has a good backup career plan.

"Go to" is pretty obvious. Chris Cooley is a "go to" guy because he catches the ball in all kinds of situations. So do Clinton Portis and Todd Yoder. Devin Thomas and Mike Sellers have demonstrated repeatedly that they have rock hands. No end zone play should rely on those guys catching the ball.

ok, fine.

So, if Cooley drops those 2 passes, what would be your point?

( I think most of us get the whole "go to" thing, but thanks for explaining.)

Disclaimer: Im not a Skins fan. Actually enjoy the gnashing of teeth and "chicken littleing" when they crash and burn. It amuses me to no end how Skins fans, every year, imagine they have a Super-Bowl bound team and go immediately into "heads must roll" mode when they fall short. And btw, Albert Hayneworth/$100M=huge LOL.

It would change things because it would have shown that Zorn understands what he is doing with his talent by going to Cooley. You don't design critical red zone plays with the intent of using your unreliable fourth receiver or your hands-of-stone full back as the playmaker.

Claiming that the Skins almost scored two TDs because of Thomas and Sellers dropping the ball is like saying the team almost scored two TDs by having Clinton Portis run a draw play at 3 and 13 from the 20 yard line. In all instances it should have been apparent to Zorn and company that while it was possible it would work, odds were improbable that it would work.

Maybe he should look in the Mirror. The players who don't understand the boos are the dim-witted ones. People watch NFL and sports in gerneral to be entertainment. In fact, sports is part of the entertainment industry if I am not mistaken. NO ONE WAS ENTERTAINED last sunday, or the past year at that. The entertainment value of this franchise has been on a percipitous decline for 8 years. Fans at the stadium probably pay out $500 on average and 10 hours of thier time for the typical game day expeierence. Why, TO BE ENTERTAINED!

Maybe if some of those clownes actually graduated, or took a business class or any real class, they would get this. I know some of them do, you hear them say "This is a business at the end of day" during thier contract negotiations.

Someone should give these guys a copy of the movie "Gladiator". As I recall in the movie, the greatest gladiator in Rome was great because he enterained the crowd, not just won.

I'll tell you what's wrong with the skins, these religious coaches. Get a ball buster in here who can get these overpaid pussies into shape. Coach Zorn is a borderline woman. Bring in a real man and he'll get it done. Like Mike Shanahan...he'll break balls and make it happen.

That doesn't work with Snyder. If a ball-busting coach comes in and rips Portis a new asshole, Portis will go to Snyder and cry. Next thing you know, the coach will be on Red Zebra publicly apologizing to everyone.

This is no way to run an organization...ANY organization.

This speaks volumes about what is wrong. Where the fuck is the sense of urgency? He's sitting there saying that the tempo of the offense is great. It wasn't. Then he is telling Steven Jackson how fucking great he is in the middle of trying to beat his team. WTF???

It's obvious from this video that Zorn was born to be a nurturing QB coach but doesn't have the fire or the pure asshole-ness needed to be a head coach. Even "nice guys" like Shanahan and Vermeil are known to put a boot up the ass when required.

Sorry your beer glass is always half empty. Haters always want to hate. What just about everyone else sees is a head coach in command of his team. A coach who is calm and decisive but who also can get frustrated. The guy obviously has a clue, which you obviously do not.

When he says that to Jackson he's really saying "mind your own business, I'm talking to the refs here" because Jackson is trying to listen in.

Gibbs is a nice guy and so is Dungy. Maybe the reason you like assholes so much is because you are one.

What I see is a QB that needs to constantly be told what to say to the team in the huddle. WTF?

If they didn't know before, now the whole offense knows that Campbell is a parrot for Zorn. He is a born non-leader.

Actually, nobody sees that. That's why there has been so much speculation about Zorn not finishing the season. The fans who booed Zorn on Sunday didn't see that, either.

A

Insult me all you want. The fact is Zorn isn't decisive and isn't in command. He has demonstrated horrible clock management. The running play that Portis got stopped on was a busted play because the O-Line didn't know which way to block. The only person Zorn seems to talk to on the team is Campbell.

No. He really likes Steven Jackson and wants his autograph after the game.

Gibbs knew how to get up someone's ass when he needed to. And Dungy was a nice guy because his players respected him for his command of the game. I get the impression for the players' body language that they don't respect Zorn or think he knows what he's doing.

Well the video is focusing on Zorn's interactions with Campbell. He simply said "tell the guys..." The only person with a radio is the QB. Zorn wanted a message delivered and Jason was the messenger.

WTF? WTF? WTF? Is that all you guys can say? Jesus.

The video clip clearly shows that Zorn knows football very well. It also clearly shows he hasn't "lost the team" as some in the media like to infer in order to sell newspapers and ads.

Clinton Portis gives quotes like this in the newspaper and Zorn hasn't lost the team?

"I mean, performance, as a team," Portis said. "We're getting booed coming off the field. So I think everybody in this organization on the hot seat. You know, I think you look at the owner, he on the verge of losing fans. You know, how long before people just give up and stop coming? You look at the players, and people want you out of here. You look at the coach, people want you out of here. So who's not on the hot seat? Until we come out and play to our potential, I think everybody on the hot seat."

You can read into what you want but you are taking this out of context. Portis has repeatedly expressed confidence in Zorn as has just about everyone else on the team. Here is an excerpt from Cooleys blog for example....

Alright, I've spent the last two days listening to never ending gripe about how terrible the Washington Redskins are. Our coaching is dreadful. Zorn is on the hot seat. Our play calling is outright awful. Anyone can call better red zone plays. Our team is a bunch of overpaid bums. Getting booed by a bunch of "dim-wits." And I don't even need to mention the way fans despise our ownership. IT'S ALL BULLSHIT.

and a quote from Portis earlier in the week...

"We execute the plays--Coach Zorn, ohhh, he's a great play caller," Portis said. "Being that we haven't executed, we're dropping passes, we're a second away, it makes it look like--Oh, what'd he call that play for? If the play is successful-- Oh, Coach Zorn, Coach Zorn, Coach Zorn....Like I said man, we all together, we all believe and we gonna keep fighting as a team."

Miffed over his lack of playing time in last week's 24-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Portis used his radio airtime on WTEM-AM to accuse Zorn of sending mixed messages. He also sarcastically called Zorn a "genius," spoke of the possibility of severing ties with the organization and said of the coaching staff: "I don't think they know what they want me to do."

For aguments sake lets say Zorn is actually calling the correct plays, and if executed correctly, that play would work. However, since the plays being called are not executed correctly, running lanes don't open up, balls are dropped, and passes are over thrown. Therefore, the logical conclusion is there must be a problem with how these guys are practicing. Maybe Zorn doesn't get enough effort out of the team during practice as Coughlin, or Bellicheck.

If you are calling plays you know your players can't execute, then you are calling the wrong plays.

So building plays around unreliable players isn't Zorn's fault? There's a reason why some players are "playmakers" and some are bench warmers. Devin Thomas is a bench warmer. No play that involves a critical end zone catch should involve him as a target. If you want to spread out the offense at mid-field with four receivers, that is one thing. But going to two guys who can't catch worth shit is idiotic.

I'm sure plays Zorn called work great during practice against the taxi squad, and a defense half assing it. I'm sure the defensive schemes look great in practice against half assing offense. Practice isn't where the rubber meets road.

The Redskins have what every other team has. It's called a 53 man roster. Not everyone on the team is going to the pro bowl. You have to go with what you've got. Coach Zorn knows more about Devin Thomas, designing plays, playmakers, and benchwarmers than you ever will. You don't support the team, we get it. Are you done?

USAToday: The Lions are finally facing someone they can beat after like 20 straight losses:

"If the Lions can build another double-digit lead, the ‘Skins might not be able to come back and win. And if that happens, Redskins coach Jim Zorn might not be able to come back to D.C. with his team."

I almost hope they lose. Then the fans will finally start revolting with thier wallets and Little Danny Snyder will have to sell the team.

That's one thing I've never understood. With every fan I've ever talked to about Dan Snyder the conversation goes like this:

Me: Dan Snyder. What a douche.
FAN: Yeah, Dan Snyder is an idiot and I can't stand him, but at least he's willing to spend money.
Me: The Patriots don't spend nearly as much as the Skins and look at them.
Fan: True.
Me: So is Dan Snyder good for the team?
Fan: Probably not
Me: You know, if just half of the fans said "enough" with their wallets, he'd be forced to sell the team, and possibly to somebody who knows what they are doing.
Fan: Yeah, but I'm a Skins fan no matter what.
Me: Ok. Keep wallowing in mediocrity.

An interesting factoid....

If anyone knows how to neutralize Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, it’s the man who knows him as well as anyone at the NFL level — long-time Titans defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, now the Lions' coach.

This is going to be bad.

They lost me. I realized during last season's swoon that this is never going to change as long as Snyder is in charge. I am now a Ravens fan. I am going to buy some Ravens gear this weekend. Fuck Snyder. Not one more dime.

If you think Dan Snyder is going to sell the most profitable franchise in the NFL you're insane. Go buy your ghey purple rat bird gear. Better yet, just become a cowboys fan like every other bandwagon jumping loser... Snyder will be the owner of the Redskins for at least the next 15 years.

If you look at Danny Boy's numbers, almost all of his profit comes from network TV contracts and the FedEx naming rights. He isn't making a profit from fans. Once the FedEx thing expires, watch out.

I will buy the gear of a winner. That won't be the Redskins gear. And if I buy a jersey, it will be of a future Hall of Famer. Not much of that going around at the Skins these days.

Actually, shitty owners are incredibly pathetic. Look at what Peter Angelos did to the Orioles. Those weren't "bandwagon fans" he drove away. If it can happen to them, it can happen to anyone.

No, I had it right. Bandwagon fans are pathetic. You don't root for the owner and being a fan isn't always about winning.

I have heard rumors on the crappy Fan or 980am that Snyder is only the majority owner of the skins. Over the years he has been selling off pieces of the team. If Snyder really is the business genius he thinks he, he will start shopping the team around while its still at peak value. Because I don't think the fan base has to many years of withstanding mediocrity left in it.

So how many of these did you buy at $100 a pop at a Redskins' store?

Those Ravens jerseys are ugly as sin. Really. Purple? Gross. Plus, they suck and are really the browns, who sucked, which is how they ended up in Baltimore. But that's okay, when they really start sucking and you get mad at the owner you can just turn in your fan card and find another team too root for. That's what so great about being a bandwagon jumper!

I've never been to a Redskins store but I have three jerseys of Redskisn HOF players. How many Ratbirds are in the HOF? Oh yeah one. Great history they have.

No one is forced to buy a jersey anyway. The Ravens have made some pretty bad free agent moves themselves.

More Complete, settle down. I'm not calling you a tool, thats not what I do. But the people who, buy season tickets year after year, despite the parking fees (not all teams charge for parking), the fee for the shuttle bus after you pay to park a mile a way, the $10 dollar beers, the FedEx express delivery fee for season tickets 6 months before the season begins, the newest latest greatest authentic jersey (See WTL's previous post) for hundreds of dollars, or the guy buys "obstructed view" seats. Being doesn't mean being a lemming.

I wont disclose my age but I was around to watch live the three of skins superbowls victories. None of us can speculate on how easy it is to win the NFL but you cant argue that some people just have it figured out. Bill Parecells seems to be a winner where ever he goes. He made the cowboys and dolphins relevant again, and turned around the hapless then NE and NYJ teams. Every coach the steelers have hired has won them a superbowl.

The DC metro area is huge, after you weed out all the people not from around here, the fan base is probably large at best, i think DC is market 5. And, the fan base was booing the team last week despite winning. I'm not going the way of WTL and be a ravens fan. I'll probably just stop watching most of the games and enjoy my sundays.

More Complete,
A good fan should feel obligated to critic the team they love, that's how they get better. If everyone was a mindless sheep like you, the owners would have no reason to spend the time and money to put a good system in place and learn to stay out of football operations.

In the Skin's case, money is not the issue. It all comes down to lack of knowledge about how to build a successful franchise that wins on a consistent basis (see Pittsburg, New England, Green Bay, etc..) Jack Kent Cooke had that and it wasn't until Snyder took over that everything went south. Why? Because he sees himself as the coach and director of player personnel.

I understand that you're a Skins fan, so am I. We both want them to be good and win games that they should, but we just go about it in different ways. It's okay to criticize them when they clearly have issues. Hell, the biggest homer out there (Sonny Jurgenson) even broke down last week and bashed the silly play calls.

The Skins won't be a success as long a Danny Boy uses too high a percentage of the salary cap to bring in "Big Names" like Fat Albert while ignoring depth on the O-Line. No team should base its success on one or two marquee names. Look how the Pats did when Brady went down. They went 11-5...because they had depth. The Skins have no depth (except with five fucking Running Backs!)

Simple. When the golden boy players (*cough* *cough* Portis *cough*) have more pull with the owner than the coaches, there's no way in hell any coach could do his job effectively. Even Gibbs, the hero of the 1980s Redskins, couldn't get it done in his second go around.

This is the primary reason we won't see Cowher, Dungy, Shannahan, or any other big name coach here anytime in the near future. They know enough to stay away from Snyder's meddling ass, no matter how much money he's willing to throw at them.

The real problem is with Snyder. Snyder has managed to make every coach who comes in here look bad. You can't blame Zorn for having the same record as Joe Gibbs and Marty Schottenheimer.

That said, Zorn's two calls early in the game probably blew any chance the Skins had to win. You know the saying, "Pride comes before the fall." Zorn's decision to go for a TD on 4 and 1 and the stupid decision to accept a penalty that kept the Lions' first drive alive resulted in a 7-0 score that probably would have been 3-3 and given the Skins the margin of victory. However, I think the reason Zorn made those calls was because of the pressure he's been getting from Danny Boy to score in the Red Zone. Yes, score in the Red Zone...on Third Down!

Given the length of Detroit's losing streak, it was a simple mathematical probability that they had to win at some point. The Skins were essentially up against a runaway freight train, statistically speaking.

On the bright side, they scored a LOT more points than last time, with TWO touchdown passes.

I know the negative nellies are going to have a field day, but things are looking UP.

Zorn is a nice guy and that's why he fails. This team lacks discipline and a basic understanding of the fundamentals.

When you look at the Lions roster, only 2 players are recognizable, Stafford and Johnson. The Skins have several pro bowlers and millionaires on the team and they still can't beat them. That can only come down to coaching and play calling/designing.

There are no players from the other team in the end zone. The other team will never reach the end zone! Our defense is crushing them! The other team's players are committing suicide in their locker rooms. Our offense cannot be stopped and is driving the other team's defense before it! We are destined for a Super Bowl victory!

I have a guess. Zorn figured it would fail regardless. He wanted to protect Campbell's QB rating because Zorn was a QB himself.

Look at it from Zorn's perspective. His top receiver from his playing days is in the Hall of Fame. He is not. If you look at Zorn's stats, it's because he threw so many picks.

I think he is being overly fatherly to Campbell in terms of not throwing picks, so that's why you didn't get the shot into the end zone.

In contrast, did you see the highlights form the Vikings/49ers game? Favre threw a TD with 10 seconds left by hitting a receiver in the back of the End Zone.

Similar circumstances. Different outcome.

Riggo is right. It doesn't matter who the Coach is or who the QB is. The results will be the same. Snyder creates a culture of failure at the team. Period.

As sung by Vinne Cerrato.

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.

And if you come, when all the flowers are dying
And I am dead, as dead I well may be
You'll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.

And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me
And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be
If you'll not fail to tell me that you love me
I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

Does anyone else feel like this is a low point in Skins history? Even when they went 0-15 I didn't feel this depressed and I can't figure out why.

It may be that they've been mediocre for so long and this season is just more of the same or it may be that I know in my heart that Jason Campbell will never amount to more than a 2nd or 3rd string backup QB. It could also be that Snyder has built an impenetrable dome of failure around the Skins and that his coke slut is out of his depth.

After the game, I was inundated with calls from friends and family asking how it felt to be the laughing stock of the NFL. It seems like they've lost all credibility.

What I know for sure is I'm at a low point as a Skins fan. Are you?

The good news we don't have watch little spoiled Danny boy (aka Tom Thumb) jump and down for joy after a victory. I can't stand that guy so much, I almost relish the losses as much the wins.

Could local NFL team stink any worse

Snider sucks. FedEx Field sucks. As long as Snider's the owner, the local NFL team will suck. But until folks stop going to games, stop buying their jerseys, stop watching on tv, Snider will continue to suck.

They lost to Detroit. Only the worst franchise in the NFL for the last 50 years.

Detroit. Seriously, Detroit. Lowly, pathetic Detroit.

They lost to a team that won 0 games last year. 0-19 Detroit.

Could it get any worse?

Yeah, they could lose to Virginia or Maryland.
