I just wanted to bump this thread real quickly. It's amazing how, after the loss to Detroit, people were upset and talking about it. Now, after two humiliating prime-time losses, going 0 and 6 against the NFC East, and being shut out at home by Dallas, nobody cares.

I wonder if this volume of apathy is going to carry over into next season? Have people finally noticed that the 'Skins have a habit of getting your hopes up (several 30+ point games, a convincing win over Oakland), only to take a giant shit on you once you're happy with them. Somehow I doubt it. I'm sure the buzz about the July Championship will spin up soon.

Mr. Captcha - you are correct, nobody cares now. Snyder has ruined this football team. And Mike Shanahan isn't going to be able to fix the problem.

The Caps are the hot ticket now. Great skins teams are only a memory. A twenty year old memory at that.

Indeed. and please, please stop rolling out those 20 year old Lombardi trophies. It dishonors the memory of some great teams.

If the Caps win the Stanley Cup, DC will become a hockey town. You can feel the shift happening already.

Washington will always be a football town.

With regards to no one caring anymore, I'd say we're all very disappointed. At this point though what more can be said. After the KC loss like 10 weeks ago, I think everyone realized the team finishing this season is just a formality.

Of course they just embarrassed themselves on national tv in a 6 day span being outscored 62-12. We all would have loved to see them win but what difference has the last 10 weeks made? Major changes are needed and I'm hopeful they'll come but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm not so sure about that. The reason the Redskins became a big deal in DC was because there was nothing else. The Senators sucked for most of their time here. The Wizards/Bullets did win a national title, but that was in the 70s, before Byrd, Magic, and Jordan transformed it into a true national sport. And the Caps couldn't get it done last time they were contenders for the Stanley Cup.

There was probably a time when Detroit was "Tiger Town" or "Lions Town." That really isn't the case anymore. The Sabres are a bigger deal in Buffalo now than are the Bills. If the Cavs win a title under LeBron, the Browns may not be a factor in Cleveland anymore.

Times change. People like Snyder can't assume fans will remain fans forever, especially when he does things like tries to dismantle his fan base by breaking up tail gates and harassing long-time season ticket holders with threats of lawsuits.

I think DC will always be a football town, mainly because hockey is boring up until the Stanley Cup and there is less chance of the Nats getting good in the near future than the Skins.

At this point, I'd be thrilled if the Skins could get to just a stable and competitive level. Lets face it, neither Tony Dungy or Bill Belichick is going anywhere, so we either need to strike gold with the next coach or just hope to get back to average (which is a major step forward at this point).

The next two weeks will be interesting nevertheless.

Let's be honest. You could have Tony Dungy, Bill Belicheck, Bill Cowher, Vince Lombardi, Paul Brown...somehow Danny Boy is going to figure out a way to fuck it up.

It's like the story of the scorpian and the frog. Danny Boy can tell Bruce Allen and Mike Shanahan and Jimmy Clausen and whoever else that he won't sting them halfway through the pond. He will. He's a fucking scorpian. That's his nature.

That has to be one of my favorite parables...

The Scorpion and the Frog

A scorpion and a frog meet on the bank of a stream and the
scorpion asks the frog to carry him across on its back. The
frog asks, "How do I know you won't sting me?" The scorpion
says, "Because if I do, I will die too."

The frog is satisfied, and they set out, but in midstream,
the scorpion stings the frog. The frog feels the onset of
paralysis and starts to sink, knowing they both will drown,
but has just enough time to gasp "Why?"

Replies the scorpion: "Its my nature..."
