What is the best car (used or new) dealership in the county?

The one that gives you the best deal. All dealerships are out to give you the shaft, just do your research for the car you are interested in purchasing. Best price trumps all.

OP, I'm sure you'll find any Tesla Motors salon to be more than a cut above the traditional Northern Virginia car dealership. We sell environmentally friendly vehicles that are unsurpassed for their quality, features, performance and reliability. If it's not Tesla...it's not worth driving.

You will more than make up for a plane ticket to fly out of this area to buy a car. Go through a car buying service and tell them you are willing to travel. My brother always goes out to Missouri or Kansas to buy his trucks.

I do not have a valid passport so I would not be able to go those places.

Carmax- to test drive everyhing and get a price to start at...


...then go online and shop around unitl you find the car at a price cheaper than that. Use truecar and carfax sales to get an idea of what point it should be at- then go lower.

Dealerships are desperate for sales this time of year- so play to the lowest bidder with all the options you want- send a deposit with your credit card (to have them hold the car) then fly/drive/uber out and get it.

Actually, dealers are not "hurting" this year. In fact, they are all on track for record sales. You will be better off waiting for slow economic downturn, but with Trump, don't hold your breath. Stocks are skyrocketing with new records every week.

The two most important money makers in a dealer are the Finance office and the service department.
CASH. Walk out at least once. If you don't make a deal in the parking lot as you head toward your car, you are not getting a "deal".

Buy a reliable car. After that warranty runs out, a car will drain you dry.

Burning vacation time, spending 300 bucks on airfare and wasting a few days sleeping in a hotel and driving over a thousand miles to save a few grand really does not seem worth all that time and effort.

I have owned from Porsches to Hondas and most cars will not drain you dry out of warranty. Keep up with basic maintenance and most modern cars will run to 200k miles without any major issues. Even the "unreliable" ones such as BMWs and Porsche are fine to own outside of warranty.

Between my Porsche and BMW, I have changed 1 fuel pump and 1 water pump over the past 5 years. Total cost for both about $1,200. The rest has been maintenance items, pad, rotors, oil, etc. Nothing at all has broken on my Toyota, in the 120k miles I have had it, just oil changes and the usual stuff such as brakes.
