Gerry Connolly was on WTOP this morning talking about why he can't get any money for Metro. It's not that Fairfax County has been controlled by Democrats and won't give more. It's not that D.C. is controlled by Democrats and won't give more. It's not that Virginia has a Democrat for governor and won't give more. It's not even the Democrats who ran the Federal Department of Transportation for the past eight years.

No, the reason why Metro is short of money is (wait for it)...

TOO MANY REPUBLICANS IN THE VIRGINIA LEGISLATURE!

Connolly released the following statement yesterday:

"The challenge facing the new Transportation Secretary from day one will be to increase federal support for Metrorail and resolve long-running questions about the ability of the FTA to provide robust safety oversight of our nation’s transit system. The federal government can no longer be a deadbeat when it comes to operating funds for Metrorail, and I look forward to working with the new Transportation Secretary to secure appropriate federal support for the very transit system that delivers many DOT employees to work each day.”

It's Connolly's job as a Congressman to ensure the appropriate spending bills get passed to fund Metro. If he can't even do that he should quit now.

Gerry is likely too busy buggering young boys to be bothered with things like Metro funding.

Aside from blaming Republicans, Connolly doesn't have an excuse for why he can't get any legislation through his own caucus.

Connolly has been reduced to endorsing other people's legislation.

Connolly needs to have a serious chat with Jim Moran, who was far more successful at bringing money for transportation back to his district.

i think in his district they are building MAGNIFICENT town centres for asian, modern condo buildings in an artistic design with pools and expensive shopping and restaurants enclosed for their condo's express benefit, and work - well democrats dont need to go into dc to find money, the gov takes care of that

Connolly, in his role on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors (1995-2009) and Congress (2009-present), is one of the people who was supposed to be exercising oversight of WMATA operations.

It's nice that he's calling for accountability now. It only took twenty years.

When he was Chairman of Fairfax Board of Supervisors he was making over $200k per year in a no work public affairs job for SAIC at Tysons. It was no coincidence that SAIC had a Silver line metro station build at their building entrance increasing their property value by millions.

I really don't want to hear why Connolly can't do his job. When he runs for office, he is super politician democrat man with a big D on his chest telling everyone how he is the smartest and best candidate available. The metro should go ot to gainsville instead putting money into hot lanes we will have to pay to use in spite of tax dollars being used to develop. How much traffic eould this take off 66 during the day? Instead, it would appear that we need to elect a republican to his position to get something done. It would seem that the big D must stand for something else.
