What are some of the area's best daytrips? We've exhausted the trails of the Shenandoah's and need some fresh ideas. Thanks.

solomons island, md is amazing. its about an hour and a half away.

I like Charlottesville. Bunch of neat restaurants and wineries. And Monticello is definitely worth a visit.

The Northern Neck area of Va is nice, especially during the growing season. There are several "pick your own" farms in the area. There is also a nice state park along the Potomac River, although I cannot remember the name off-hand.

Northern Neck is nice. Park, I think, is Westmoreland State Park.

Baltimore. Eat at the Calvert Dining Room. Go to the USCGC Taney. Go to Little Italy.

Gettysburg is less than 2 hours away, and is interesting if you like historical stuff.

Annapolis is nice

Baltimore Inner Harbor (National Aquarium. Good restaurants)

Richmond (yes, Richmond) Confederate White House, good Museums.

Harper's Ferry (History and hiking)

Luray (if you like caverns)

I would suggest George Washington's birthplace in Westmoreland County. It's a little less than two hours away, and a nice little drive. Once there, there are lots of places to walk (all flat), and you can go see the Washington family cemetery where ol' George's grandparents are buried.

It has an old Europe feel. The downtown area is very nice.

Tubing on the Shennadoha - But it might be a little cold now.

Buds Creek has some cool Motocross events. If you have never been, worth a trip. Some of courses have bikes going 15+ feet in the air.

Chesapeake Bay - Go crabbing on the Bay, tie leftover chicken bones to a string, drop it in off a dock.

Calvert Cliffs State Park - The cliffs which dominate the shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay for thirty miles in Calvert County, were formed over 15 million years ago when all of Southern Maryland was covered by a warm, shallow sea. Over 600 species of fossils have been identified from these cliffs, with the teeth of various species of shark as the most abundant fossils. The park is 14 miles south of Prince Frederick on Maryland Routes 2 & 4.
