Any local McDonald's sell FRIED apple pies?
Posted by: Ron MacD ()

Just wondering. I've hated the baked ones every since they rolled them out in the 90's. I read that some stores were bringing back the fried pies.

Well, damn...I haven't had one of those in probably 30 years, and now my dreams of future fried-pie glory are crushed.

All Southern California McDonalds brought back fried apple pies last year just for fun. They were a hit! Not sure if that promotion is still on. The "historic" McDonalds in Downey south of LA always fries them. All UK McDonalds still fry them. Next time you're in London or Downey, CA you should stock up.

Baked pies are a choice for health reasons

No such thing as a more healthy pie. May as well have something that tastes better if you're choosing to indulge.

Just buy a can of apple pie filling and a can of biscuits. Roll out one of the biscuits flat, put some pie filling on it, fold the dough over and use a fork to seal the seams. Cook in some hot oil. Wallah! Fried apple pie.

Yes but they fry the version of the pie that's supposed to be baked, so it's slightly different and not 100% authentic. And it's not placed in the right packaging either. It's only a 7 hour flight to London for the real thing.

Nice pic! Brings back memories.
Remember the old styrofoam Bic Mac containers?
I want to find one of those, maybe store my ashes in it once I'm cremated.

2 Granny Smith apples
1 Pink Lady or Honeycrisp apple
4 tablespoons brown sugar, packed
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, freshly grated
1/2 teaspoon allspice
2 tablespoons salted butter
1 box puff pastry sheets, thawed overnight in the fridge
Vegetable, peanut, or canola oil for frying
Directions

Peel and roughly chop the apples. Transfer to a large saucepan, and add the sugar, spices, and butter; cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes or until tender. Allow to cool.
Cut each puff pastry sheet into four equal-sized strips. For each apple pie, spoon 2 tablespoons of apple mixture on one side of each puff pastry strip. Brush the edges of puff pastry with water before folding the pastry over to cover the filling. Crimp closed with the tines of a fork.
Refrigerate for 15 minutes to firm up the dough.
Meanwhile, heat 1 inch of oil to 350°F in a large, heavy-bottomed dutch oven or pot. Fry pies 2 or 3 at a time for about 2 minutes or until golden brown, flipping once. Transfer to a paper-towel lined plate. Serve hot.

For a fried apple pie that is very close to the old MickyDs, try POPEYS chicken. No crap, they have fried apple pies. And they taste like the real deal from mcds in the 80s.

And there you have it. The first real honest answer on ffu!

I now return you to the regularly scheduled BS.

NOT WORTH IT

niggas will sue them for "3rd degree" burns too to "apple pies that were too damn hot", the sugar sticking to the skin and all (self inflicted of course)

furthermore, somehow they will find a crooked judge that "make it all happen"

they cause diabetes anyhow. eat an roasted apple and shut up about the corn syrup and frying

If you have a friend who works at Mickey D's and it's slow and the manager is cool, then you may get them to put a couple of pies in the fryer for you.

Would be interesting to see how they turn out.... original pies were not fully cooked and had a coating to help them crisp up and turn golden as they fried.

allot of foods started off "sain" in usa

ie, an apple pie might have granny apples (tart - great cooked) baked and white cane sugar: but not much as apples are ALREADY SWEET.

infact many homemade pies in the 1980's, if not most, did not use south american white sugar - BECAUSE IT WAS ALREADY SWEET ENOUGH - but they did add surgar to pecan pies or sour cherry or what - not as much.

and corn syrup in fruit pies - just disgusting. GTFO.

crispy crust - sure was a favorite before mc'donalds, and still is

"Pies made with sweet fruit do not need sugar - adding any is optional."

even the cook books used to say that

One of the problems with Fairfax--no Checkers. When I lived in PG County they were everywhere. You have to drive to Manassas or Rockville to find a Checkers.

Problem is half of the local McD's are owned by ragheads and gooks who never had the original fried apple pie and thus have no interest in bringing them back. They're happy selling the same dried up crap that they always have.

Not a single mcdonalds(exception is Seoul), is owned by a Korean. They think the royalties are "toooooo highhhhh"
Where I work in MD, one black owns like 52 of them in PG, Charles and Calvert counties.

Poorly run with scores of less than 65%.
