Okay, the spambots have gotten out of control. Not sure why this little site is suddenly on their radar.
I'll be implementing a captcha (one of those annoying "type the letters and numbers" things) for anonymous posters. I'll try to keep it as short as possible, like 3 characters.
So while I'm doing this I've been thinking about throwing in some other modules such as:
- Online user list
- "Poll" posts
- Spell check (hah!)
and some others. You can see a list of modules available at: http://www.phorum.org/cgi-bin/trac.cgi/wiki/ListOfModules
I've also been working on making the arrest/ticket search MUCH more intuitive. Not just with individual field matching, but graphs to show trends in crimes, etc.

The captcha idea is a great idea. I also like the online user list idea. You should add a "user rank" module, that way we can start fights in here about who is ranked higher.

Wow! Cary, you sound super smart! I don't know what a spambot is but it sounds weird. I like the idea of polls too. The spellcheck might be a good idea. When I first started posting here everyone made fun of my typos and misspellings. Since then I have been trying a lot harder. Part of it was I was getting used to my laptop keyboard and it was flat. I found it hard to use so I made mistakes. Or perhaps it was that pain medicine I was on when my leg was broken?? The only thing I wish is that I could type in pink!!!! or in some other nice color!
Other than that, I just love this website. The people here are so nice and that Gravis and Reston Peace are super cute posters who tend to grow on you! I have used a lot of info from this site and the restaurant suggestions are great. Thank you for maintaining and starting this place. I am sure that your mom and dad are very proud of you and how smart you are.

Hi Meeper,
I absolutely love the little deer picture. I live near the GMU field house and there is a mother deer and three baby deers who I see once in a while. The mom even lowers the branch so the little ones can eat the leaves. It's total cuteness!!! I am glad that you like Cary too!!!

Thanks. About the hearts. My friend works on a magazine called Elan in Loudound County. She says with her Mac that she can use a heart in a sentence in place of the word"love". I wish I had a Mac so I could do that.

I see deer around here too in Tysons Corner Trickie, I don't mean near parks either, I've seen them right along Aline Avenue, everything is paved over around there so I think they either get lost or are trying to find dumpsters to eat from.

im a fluent php programmer and could really help out on some of this stuff. what you really need is a antispam module. dont they have one? it seems like a module that passed messages through a backend program (php isnt exactly the fastest languague on the planet) would be "easy". post a reply here because i never see the "you have a private message". that thing little message alert thing needs to be in bright red.

at this point, the email obfustication needs to be implemented. a week ago, one of my very old email addresses i put in my posts here started getting spam. now a more recent addresses i posted previously is getting spam. i have no problem with torching these addresses (they are disposable) but im just looking out for other people that put in addresses they actually use for everything.

- when you click "mark all read" it should go back to the list of forums.
- if someone types a post in which the majority of letters (dont include symbols or numbers) are capitalized, they should be converted to lowercase. this should only happen when someone hits post message instead of preview so they dont try to bypass the guard.

It would be nice if the forum main page included the new message flag on the "Specific City/Town Forum" and "NoVA Underground" folders. That way you don't have to open those folders to check for new new messages.
Man this is an old thread. It's funny to look back and see how Cary posts a useful thread and within moments it turns into a discussion about posting in pink and then devolves into people just bashing each other for no real reason.

It's what keeps me coming back. On some other forums I sometimes wanted a "flamewar" thread where people could just get it all out of their system, with FU (even the initials are rude) you get nothing but flaming 24/7. Always entertaining. It scares me to think of what you guys look like in RL.

Ummm, Trickie posted the HUGS comment and I requoted it. I put the deer gif on there because it was a sappy comment at the time, so inserted a sappy picture. It's s cartoon of a deer, not nearly as "gay" as that superman pic you like to post, the one with a bulge in the pants.
