That's a good point and another reason President Trump said what he said.

The main reason Trump said it is that his supporters are delusional. They believe in conspiracies and they believe he is ahead in the polls.

I learned that in the election of 2000 Al Gore did not finish the call because of the state started an automatic recount. The TV networks did not stop the call. The automatic recount meant the state of Florida's results could not be certified and the election was not over.
I know, I studied this for a debate class.

The question Mr. Trump was asked the second time was this:

Not saying you're necessarily going to be the loser or the winner, but that the loser concedes to the winner and the country comes together in part for the good of the country. Are you saying you're not prepared now to commit to that principle?

The question was whether he would commit to the principle that the loser concedes to the winner.

It was not whether he would concede.

He could not commit to the principle.

Yeah, no, he isn't. Nobody asked "Will you unequivocally, even if it comes down to a single state with very close numbers, will you just accept the first word that she won?"

What he was asked was "Will you accept the results of the election." Even a child knows that this means "After all is said and done".

Look at it like this: you have the right to sue your employer over whatever you think was unfair. But if someone asks, "Are you going to sue your employer?", you aren't going to say "I'll let you know". And you also don't go in every day and say "I may sue you", which is kind of like what he's been doing at rallies.

Get it?

What Gore did was enact a recount WHICH FLORIDA LAW PROVIDES FOR! It wasn't a courtesy or a privilege...it's the law. Florida, like many states, has a provision wherein if the vote is within a percentage, the candidate with the fewer votes is given the option of either conceding the vote in that state...OR he or she may request a recount.

It's simply good political operations that if the vote count is that close and there's a provision in the laws of that state, every candidate, regardless of party affiliation, should request that recount. Let's not forget...Gore won the popular vote. It's not like he got killed in every other state and was just wasting everyone's time with a recount in Florida. The entire election could have been riding on Florida's electoral votes.

Now then...what a candidate like Trump is doing by stating BEFORE THE ELECTION HAS EVEN HAPPENED, that he's not necessarily going to honor the results is that his personal political agenda should take precedent over the Electoral College, the voice of the people and our entire...election...process.

Look, if it goes down for Trump like it did for Gore and he has the legal option of requesting recounts in tight races...then so be it, call for the recounts...that's what the laws provide for.

But, when you get smoked the way Trump is going to get smoked on election night, the electoral college AND the popular vote will clearly show Trump to be not only the personal loser that he is but, also a political loser, too.

To compare what Gore did in 2000 with what Trump said last night...is comparing American steel with Chinese steel.

Except Gore actually won the popular vote. Trump will not be close to doing that.

Ya, but this is Trump...Liberals don't care when it's one of their guys.

Al Gore did not do what Trump is doing. The Trump campaign is questioning the legitimacy of the election in advance. The Gore campaign did it after the fact. That doesn't make what the Gore campaign did acceptable. It does mean that questioning the election result was not part of the Gore campaign's pre-election strategy.
