Charles Town Races and Slots

Any personal opinions here on experiences at this "Charles Town Races and Slots" place? I know they don't have table gaming, and it's certainly not going to be anything even close to Vegas. But it sounds like it might be a fun time for me and some friends to hit for a long nite of whooping it up at vid poker and drinkin. I'm just wondering if this place has any full-pay VP machines, what the food is like, drink comps, accomodations, etc.

Just lookin for some low-roller goodtimes with alot of no frills drinkin and goofin around. I hate going to AC, by the way...so don't suggest that.

The trip is about 45 mins from FFX up RT 9 of RT 7. It's not even close to Vegas. There are no table games. Mostly old, fat and poor people chain smoking at the video slot\poker games. There's a small band stage and they usual have a band. Don't expect the stage to look the like Ad's on TV.

I think in the slots(enough slots that you can lost in them) you are only allowed one drink\beer an hour. Some WVA gaming law I think. It's kinda messed up. There are three bars so move to different bars to get drinks. The chic's do comp you drinks but expect to tip them a buck if you expect to see them again during the evening. When we were there the waiter chic's were pretty average and rarely seen. We had the only hot looking girls in the place and we got stares where ever we went. So don't expect to meet any wild hot babes there-BYOBabe.

They just put in a huge hotel so you might be able to get some good rates. We always stay across the street in one the shanty hotels.

We usually do the horse's at the start of an evening around 7pm and then hit the slots after. All in all it's something fun and different to do once a year, but that's about it.

I've been there once, it was just "ok". The live entertainment they have is pretty much crap. I hate A.C. too, Meeper, so I feel ya there.

Can't speak to accomadations... I mean, it's less than an hour and a half away and I don't drink, so i have no reason to stay.

The food isn't too bad, but I found the waitstaff to be a little on the slow side. Probably from drinking the lead-enhanced WVA water.....

Oh and the hookers, god they were awful. You pay for a blowjob and get at best, a few licks.

The machines claim to pay out on the same level as vegas and ac. They dont even come close. The times I went there I didnt see anyone hitting anything big, approaching 500 dollars and up.
AC has better slot odds but the table games are too high. If you want to go for a few days I would suggest saving a few bucks more and fly to vegas. By the time you drive and pay tolls to AC it would be better to go to vegas. Besides once in vegas you will never even think of hitting AC again or for that matter charlestown.
And never ever bet the horses, that is the biggest sucker bet going.

Sorry Meeper, missed the part about not suggesting AC. I would still stand by vegas. You can get non stop flights and quality hotels on the strip for low prices as it is non summer rates. Vegas is good anytime. If you like gambling besides slots then hit vegas. Since it is the only safe place to make sportsbet I usually go there around football playoff time and college basketball playoffs.

You'll never equal vegas in this country. My reommendation is you should find one of those card games like in the movie "Boiler Room"....

Speaking of, where could one get that kind of action? In theory I mean, where would one meet individuals who may be able to point a person in that direction? A few years ago a cop in PW got busted for running high stakes games so I know they must be a lot more rampant than it appears.

Hey, thanks for all the feedback on this place. It sounds like a dive, but that fact sparks my curioisty, so I think I might still make a trip out there. I try to get to Vegas at least once a year, but couldn't do it this year. I normally like hanging out in the low-roller dowtown Vegas joints like the El Cortez, Gold Spike, Plaza, etc... the kinds of places where we can smoke and drink a lot and really whoop it up at the craps tables without caring about making fools of ourselves. I'm not much into slots, but I wouldn't mind a night of slumming it with some horse bets and some vid poker (i.e. the crack cocaine of gambling). That one-drink-per-hour law is pretty laughable, and so is the "pay out on the same level as vegas and ac"- in fact, it gets harder and harder every year to find full-pay 9/6 JOB vid poker in Vegas; so I certainly can't imagine they'd be offering it in podunk WV. I'll report back if I make a trip out there next few weeks-

Montreal. A 10 hour drive, a casino designed like a spaceship, and hot, skinny chicks with french accents. Those of you who dont like smoking should probably avoid it, they do it everywhere.

Don't forget also that Charlestown has a Vegas style camera monitoring system installed. We finally brided a guy at one of the bars to serve us a couple of shots and he said, be careful because they can see and HEAR us right now in the security camera room. He also said very quietly "f this place I'm quiting after tonight anyway" LOL

Meeper. last time I was in vegas they were still pushing that family destination crap. I was at one of the tables and there was some serious money being played. Meanwhile there were kids yelling for mommy and running around the table. I know they are supposed to be adults just to be in the casino but there they were.
Thankfully vegas got over that stupid idea. Downtown area never did bite on that idea though. It has stayed pretty much the same.
Charlestown was pushing last year to get approval for a full fledged casino but it never made it but I would think they will keep trying.

I got kicked out, apperently you can not bring the red solo cups that the waitress gives you on to the gambling floor and if you try to explain that the waitress give it to you they will forcefully take you out.... And that is not fun. I was kicked out for that or for bring up the teeth per mouth ratio, I think they like it around 7 teeth per mouth.

Tim45- stick w/ downtown Vegas next time you're out there. The Strip is for tourists and resort-goers; Downtown is for gambling/partying, you won't see many kids there. It still retains a sense of wretchedness and danger, in a fun and goofy way though. I still really like alot of the Strip properties, but nowadays it seems like that whole failed "family oriented" thing is turning more toward catering to really "trendy" 20 & 30-somethings from LA that have loads of money to blow on overpriced rooms, amenities, and food.

The bug-eyed bimbo in the ad is enough to turn me off of that place. Besides, isn't Atlantic City just a few hours away?

A little over 3 hours away. You won't find table minimums less than $10-15 in AC, and they probably go up to $25 on the weekends. I never really liked it there and wouldn't drive all that way just for one night of goofin' off.

Don't waste your time going to Charles Town. All the slots work on a ticket system and they don't pay out. You would have more fun playng a slot game on you computer (unless you into hanging out with all the senior citizens).

You can’t compare anything around here to Vegas. Charles Town is an ok diversion for an afternoon, except that you can’t get away from all the smoke. I like the play station type machines, the only ones I found with video poker, and the other digital ones. More fun than slots. The dollar slots are the only ones worth playing. I think the music they play pretty well sucks, they need to pep it up a lot. It seems like the whole thing is in slow motion, like either it's on drugs or I am.

What about the Delaware slots? Are they still there? Is that worth driving out to?

Haven't been to many casinos, have you?

ROFL That's what ALL casinos are like!

The difference is: if they have table gaming,
there will be people who look slightly less pathetic,
losing larger amounts faster. And there will be rooms
that you will not be allowed in to, where you can loses
thousands of dollars in seconds playing blackjack.

But in no case will any casino look like ads on TBm
with young nice looking people running around having fun.

I recently made my first trip to C'Town and as most have said it's kind of an amateur casino. I did find one interesting machine. It's called spin to win or something like that. When you hit a certain combo on the spinning wheels you get to spin a large wheel on top of the machine. I watched people playing for awhile (and mostly losing their ass) so I would move in once some loser quit playing a particular machine. Then I bet the max which I think was $2 per spin. There is a major jackpot, over $25,000, and a minor jackpot, usually around $125. I spent $100 and won the minor jackpot on 3 different machines so not bad! But I observed unless you play the max amount, you wont win shit.
