Heard it happened earlier today... anyone know specifics?

Other than money, what the fuck is worth stealing from Radio Shack? FM transmitters? Shitty remote control cars? Phone cords? Fuses? Outlet coverplates?

I'm surprised there is any money there. The two times a year I need something from Radio Shack they don't have it in stock and I grab it elsewhere. It is a mystery to me how Circuit City could go out of business and Radio Shack is still in business.

I go there for the swell remote controlled cars, then I go the hobby store and get really cool model airplanes...I'm thinkin of getting one of those awesome CB radios....but I don;t know if I'm cool enough for it.

My step-son works at Giant and he said cops showed up around 3:oo.
I saw the police copter flying around 3:45. That's all I know

The thieves took off with money in a Radio Shack bag. The police were looking for a Mercedes and two individuals. Helicopter checked all the majors roads and didn't see any Mercedes.

Interesting to note that most robbers who hit Reston banks and businesses usually live to the West of Reston.

+1. I was in the Battery of the Month club when I was a kid.

Battery of the month club. +1 I was also a member as a kid. I use to buy all sorts of resisters, capacitors, transistors etc from Radio Shack for hobby projects . My favorite was LED's. When your a kid, LED's are just cool.

When you're a kid, taking apart an old radio makes you feel like Dr. Frankenstein. I wish the simple things still amused me sometimes.

I blame my Dad for hooking me on electronics. He bought me one of those crystal radio sets. We put it together when I when I was about 4 years old and I was amazed.

I looked at him like "this is some serious shit Dad, voices coming from this rock!"

Radio Shack, now simply known as "The Shack", does an amazing amount of low dollar business along with a brisk business in cell phones. While they might sell the occassional TV or home theater system, the bread and butter is stuff like cables and accessories that you could probably get cheaper online, but you need it now.

A couple of weeks ago I needed to connect my iPod to my Onkyo AV receiver for a party. I found the cable at Monoprice for $5, but could not wait 5-7 days for delivery so I paid $14 at RS.

What I don't understand is why someone would rob RS when they are not much of a cash business - how much could you possibly get?

if you are going to rob any store that means you need money in a bad way. im surprised The Shaq didnt ask for the robbers home phone and zip code. i get the impression they will deny my service if i dont give it to 'em. i always leave the store with a weird feeling.

Interesting point, but some guys also robbed the Giant(right next store to RS) in that same shopping center a couple of months ago. I don't recall if they every caught the guys. Could be the same guys. Maybe the guys know that shopping center well.

I worked at that Giant for a while... that center has been headed towards this for a long time.

yeah this is an old topic but apparently monday the 17th the gamestop at northpoint was robbed and a few hours later the radioshack was robbed. didnt even see the date of the first post. thought it was about the recent robbery. and no i didnt just get out. i got out in 06 after doing 5 yrs. robbery isnt my thing. i steal cars. well i use to anyways.

I missed this thread but I can add that I used to be a part timer at
Radio Shack years ago and to the poster who said he couldn't understand
why anybody would rob a RS store I can answer that. Some people will
rob any place that has a cash register. Not only that, you would be
surprised at how much shoplifting takes place there. Why anybody would
risk arrest for stealing a $2.00 phone cord was bewildering but they do.
Also popular at the time (before digital) were the tiny tv's with a
4 inch screen, hand held video games, and even the electrical components
on the wall that start at 99 cents. Some stores are small and have only
a couple of employees on duty at a time so that makes them an easy mark
too. Our store manager used to keep a baseball bat under the counter
and told me several times that he was glad I'd spent 14 years in Tae
Kwon Do in case we had a drunk get out of control after being thrown
out of the bar next door. I like working there because we received a
commission once our quota had been met and it wasn't unusual at all for me
to make $400.00 for a four hour shift on Saturday mornings. Not bad for
the times. They've pretty much ended the commissions and pay a flat
hourly rate now but you don't get near the quality of sales staff. Now
you get teenagers and foreigners who don't know squat and don't care.
