Announcing Ellie Schmidt for Mayor
Posted by: EllieSchmidt ()
Date: October 07, 2016 07:35AM

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Our great City of Fairfax has come to a cross roads as a result of some unexpected challenges, leaving us with a vacancy in the office of Mayor that will be filled by a special election on February 7th of 2017.

When I decided to run for City Council in 2010, I knew from decades of experience on boards, commissions, and committees and in local service clubs what our community values and what I value.

In giving a great deal of thought as to how I can best serve this community during these times, I believe that the next avenue of service for me is in the office of Mayor. As a result, today I’m announcing my candidacy for Mayor of the City of Fairfax and I ask for your support in this journey.

Navigating our way through these unique times will take a steady and experienced hand. Leading the City of Fairfax takes a focused, hardworking leader who understands not only where we have been, but more importantly, where we need to go in the future. I believe that I have the qualifications and experience.

We are facing an unprecedented number of redevelopment projects that will impact the City for the next 50 years. In considering the options placed before the City Council, it’s imperative to give thoughtful consideration as to how our decisions will impact the long term viability of our community. We must balance vision, livability, innovation and current trends in urban planning with the fiscal, technical and property considerations that are very real parameters. My careful deliberations come from a “measure twice, cut once” philosophy that aims to avoid costly and unforeseen consequences to proposals that can be very appealing on their face.

As I move forward in collecting petition signatures and filing my paperwork for the upcoming special election, I look forward to discussing the important issues facing our community such as high-density redevelopment, the increasing tax rate, the overall cost to live in the city, and traffic congestion.

During the next several months, I hope you will reach out to me with questions, concerns and suggestions about the priorities facing the City of Fairfax. I feel confident that with hard work and an engaged community, we can move the City forward in a positive and prosperous direction. I ask for your support in this special election as I commit to a new level of community service as your Mayor.

Ellie is a great choice to be mayor. Very fiscally responsible compared to others on the council and very responsive.

She is the only one on council who isn't part of the clown club. As long as a good outsider does not jump in, she's the best choice.

Ellie Schmidt kicked off her campaign today at Eastwinds in Fairfax City. Honestly, the poor woman is a terrible public speaker. I have concerns about her beyond her lack of speaking ability. She's in her mid/late 50s and still lives with her mommy, or maybe her mommy lives with her. Same issue.

She's never been married, so we go from the gay Meth Mayor to a single woman, no kids and never married - just saying. And she's been a part of the council's water deal with Fairfax County resulting in a potential loss of $70M in value to the tax payers. She also has supported the city's plans for 123/50 which is nothing but a gift to the developers. She also has well over $10K in campaign debt, which means she doesn't know how to manage her campaign finances - even the broke former mayor ran his campaigns in the black (check out VPAP.org).

I don't like any of the choices but Ellie seems like the weakest of the bunch. Check out her pics front and center with the XXX-Mayor.

No meth for me. I'm a supporter of law enforcement. Just think we can do better than the three clowns on the city council running for mayor. Ellie is NOT an improvement and I can't decide the lessor of the other evils. We really should have had an outsider run - a local Trump!

What ever happened to Mr. A. He got 40+ percent against Mayor Meth. Seems like he would have been the strongest candidate. I hope he runs for the empty council seat which will happen after one of the other three get elected. I would say Loftus but there are a lot of people who think she has baggage. Plus, she was obnoxious. New blood please!

dems - believe they can't be accused of wrongdoing when they break all the rules

----------------------

after a resignation of an elected official, the past official or council has 30 days to arrange for holding elections - and elections are not to be delayed a year

these people "appointed their own boss" and refuse to hold elections until 2017 (2018 is when supposedly the normal term expires)

all democrats, i assume, no belief in doing anything except what they please and self assured they are un-touchable in doing so

I too am not buying that “she’s not in with the others” I have never heard her say much and whatever I did hear, it never gave me an impression one way or the other. Sort of null and void. If she has an intelligent-sounding, independent thought not like the rest, I wish she’d share it.

forget that, if she was in with them on the water deal, the only thing I want to hear her say is “I’m sorry. I fucked up.”

By the way, has Scotty ever uttered those words? I’ll be he tries running again.

Why didn’t “A” put his hat in the ring? Does he wash his hands of Fairfax now - lucky he didn’t win the last race or pissed off he didn’t win?

Is there any hope for our corrupt and broken little over-budget, county-like council city?

I stand with my fellow Lesbian - Ellie Schmidt for Mayor. She will support LGBT issues and ability for transgenders to use the bathroom of their choice. I love Ellie!

Right now there is little immediate hope for our corrupt and broken, little, over-budget county-like city council.

This is a bonus mayor slot, courtesy of Mr. Meth Mayor. Those 6 sitting on council now are serving as Meth Mayor's "picks" from last May, Silverspoon's formal slate. Yes, Meth boy had his slate and made it very public. Of the 3 candidates for 1 year mayor, it is my belief that Ellie Schmidt was Silverthorn's least favorite of the 6.
I'm going with that one.
The other two - they are cut from the same cloth. They love Gerry Connolly, want Metro to run through the city, and feel they benefit the little people by offering a full time commitment to enlarging the city's debt and size of government. Ellie was born and raised here, she has some ties. The other 2 can't get their golden handshakes fast enough to leave. One is "looking at property down south" and the other spends every weekend at his former home in Pa. But who can look Meth Mayor's gift horse in the mouth?

The problem is there is ZERO leadership. No balls among the elected posse. Loftus was a lone soldier and they did not like resistance.

This brings me to the people most concerned with the candidates and outcome of the Feb. election. That is the City Manager. City Attorney, and the dept. heads of City Staff. The relief that has been expressed by these parties that no "outsider" is running is palpable. That is most telling. Don't drain our swamp!

The "outsiders" are slaying the real dragons. They are not the elected body, but the cancer itself - headed up by the City Manager. I have read where colleagues have shared threads about the City Manager Sisson and Public Utilities consultant Thoesen selling the land in Loudoun out from under our noses. We witnessed this. The public did not. Meth Mayor went along with the Sisson and duped his "picks" and those questioned will not apologize for being misinformed.

Not a disclaimer, just a note:
I have worked with the city for almost 20 years and post this outside of my place of employment.

What a mess! The people running for mayor are on the city council and are part of the problem. All are under the stink of the former mayor and do not accept any responsibility for letting our city go to the blighted Detroit of Virginia that it now is. I'm going to sit this one out and that is upsetting.

DeMarco is the third. We all sound a bit schizophrenic over development. Remember that since the fire, the shopping center where hooters and Baskin-Robbins has been basically deserted for years - nearly 10 years. Silverthorne, for all his faults, was pushing this center and the circle to be redeveloped. Circle was approved two years ago and the council is now considering the center where Baskin Robbins used to be. These redevelopments may not be ideal, but every council member has voted for most of them. I want another choice because all three council members aren't supporting the will of the people. I also just looked at Schmidt's finances online. Not a pretty picture.

I looked at Schmidt's finances online and found she has about $5,000 in her campaign account as of June 2016. Not sure what I'm missing.
